A-10A Maverick will not fire

I'm sorry i just can't figure it out. I select 7 then mode select to get the wagon wheel looking symbol. slew it over a target hit enter and it locks on.....the "+" symbol is flashing. press the rt alt and space bar and nothing happens. over and over. the weapons panel shows i've selected the Maverick station. it has like a white number 1 in the bottom left. in the training video it shows a green light. any idea what i'm doing wrong?

Did you turn the TV on? It might be required to have that on ("O" I think) and perhaps you have to turn a laser on, I don't remember. I want to say it's SHift-L but you might want to look that up. Been a while since I've flown the A, but it is a fun jet.

You need to hold the fire trigger for a while! Hold it for some 10 seconds and I'm sure you will get a launch :)

The same is true of most missiles in DCS, be they air to ground or air to air: the targeting system, whatever it is, performs a check to see if correct launch parameters exist before the weapon will fire. This can take less than a second or in some cases several seconds.

 

About the Maverick specifically, some people seem to have issues in getting the thing to lock in the first place. Personally I don't fly the A-10 but even experienced flyers such as Bunyap and Ralfidude have issues occasionally. Without knowing more about how the system works, I think it's probably an issue with contrast ratio between the target & background.
