I whis you good flight when ever you are in the air sir!

Edit: im still curius why the Officer at 3:00 in the first video looks like Masterchief from Halo, it seems he has a different helmet then the other pilots?

I'm not a pilot, I'm a Crew Chief. I wish I was a pilot. But as to the helmet that you are wondering about, that's the helmet mounted cueing system attachment. Almost all pilots are using that now. Sometime, depending on the mission they'll fly without the HMCS and use a regular visor. And the back seater doesn't use it ever.

No worries man I have no problem answer questions about my job. So I am assigned to my one plane. She's mine and if she is flying then I'm launching her out and taking care of her. Unless for some reason they need me on something else. Which is pretty rare. If my jet isn't on the she duke, then they plug me in where they need me.

Crewchief or chief is just a term. The official names in the USAF are Dedicated Crew Chief or DCC ( highest ranking enlisted person assigned to a specific aircraft) and Assistant DCC (any other enlisted personnel assigned to a specific aircraft). Most pilots call anyone in the Flight line (where we work on the jets) as "chief". As an ADCC, you tend to work on your assigned aircraft more often than not, but DCC (since they are more experience) work all over. You don't have to be a specific type of mechanic to be assigned as a DCC. You can be a Weapons Loader, Avionics Specialist, Engine Specialist, etc. but this is rare. Most DCC and ADCC in fighter aircraft are Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist (TAMS).

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..

I am a crew chief and the DCC on my jet. I am also an ART, so I work as a civilian during the week. Because of that if my jets on the schedule, I'm on her. I can only think of a handful of times in the last year that I haven't launched her out. I know on other bases the DCC program is different, but technically since I'm a civilian, they can't put me on anything but my jet. As that was what I was hired to do.

Yeah, is different for you guys and the Guard. I was fortunate to meet some of the guys at Wisconsin ANG back in 98 and 99 when I went to Oshkosh EAA Airventure, some guys where SMSgt, still on the line, crewing. They did a lot of things differently but really cool bunch of guys. I was a SRA at the time, I remember trying to tell this A1C how to do something, he laugh and told me he has been doing this for 10 years...so I promptly shut up and got out of his way.

Your not kidding, when I joined the ART program (SMCO), it was a bit confusing to have Msgts out banging rivits and painting planes all reperatered up. Just regular wage grade civilian wearing the uniform during the week. To add to the confusion, at my base we work right along side the active duty and its pretty much their show. It's usually an active 7 level staff or tech making the calls. Pretty common for a pro-sup to roll up looking for answers from a master only to be referred to the staff shift supervisor.

It's the same for us we are a TFI unit as well. Although I've only seen the guard with MSgts out on the line. We just have TSgt and below on the line. But the good news is since the active duty unit is getting the 35 first, we get it first. This is going to be the longest four days of my life lol.
