OK....I have neglected the A10 for long enough. I've been starting to learn the more detailed weaponology, and am now working on the TGP with Mavericks.

I got everything down pretty well but I have a question about Ralt+up. This is to stabilize no? Well ok.....all of the tutorials I have seen on this say that this is what I push on the keyboard but none of the YouTube videos can tell me what HOTAS command it is. I must have deleted it when I assigned all of my HOTAS commands to my X52 because I cannot find it in my controls menu, nor can I find it on any keyboard binding chart for the A10C.

So what is the HOTAS command for Ralt+up? Please....it's driving me crazy.

Does this binding even exist any more???

LOL....Thx

With mav set SOI Ground Stabilize is TMS Aft default keys are leftCtrl+down. Track is TMS forward short default keys leftCtrl+up. I don't think RightAlt+up is a default keybinding. RightAlt+Down is is boat switch center, which is force correlate with mav SOI, maybe that's what you are thinking of.

I didn't think so but every friggin YouTube video I have seen tells me it's Ralt+up. I was just trying to figure out if this was a legit binding or not. I looked all over the forums and internet and could not find it.

These are two videos that show Ralt+up as the stabilization.

Hmm......like the other poster mentioned, probably obsolete.

Thanks much guys!!!!

Eek! I suggest you stop watching tutorials from this content creator. He is using incorrect terminology and teaching bad habits.

First off, it's not a "marker" he's setting, it's setting a SPI, a Sensor Point of Interest.

Secondly, he's using TMS aft short to ground stabilize the Maverick while the boat switch is in the center position. This sets the Maverick to Force Correlate mode. In Force Correlate, the Maverick isn't tracking the actual target but rather the overall scene that it sees. If the target moves, the Maverick isn't going to follow it. Also, Force Correlate in DCS is modeled poorly according to some experts here. IRL, Force Correlate can maybe hit the broad side of a barn, but doesn't have the pinpoint accuracy to hit a tank. Also, only Mavericks with a CCD seeker (the AGM-65H and the AGM-65K) can use Force Correlate. It doesn't work with the AGM-65D or AGM-65G.

What you ought to be doing is using TMS forward short. I don't recall off the top of my head what key combination that is since I use a HOTAS, so go into your keyboard settings and find it (it's under the HOTAS section). TMS forward short tells the Maverick to attempt a lock via Centroid Tracking (not Force Correlate). Centroid Tracking is not only the proper protocol, it's much more accurate IRL, and will follow the target if it moves or is moving. It may take several tries before it locks, and you need good contrast between the target and its background and you need to be in range, so keep flying towards the target area while pressing TMS forward short until you see the gate flash, indicating tracking.

P.S. I recommend you read pg 568-572 in the DCS A-10C Flight Manual for more information.

There is an in-game training which is rather good, on Mavericks, GBU, and so on. It mentions both the keyboard and the TMS aft HOTAS control to stabilize (usually all controls are mentioned with HOTAS and keyboard equivalent). The only drawback is that there's sometimes a lot of acronyms that are not necessarily introduced, they won't prevent you from learning, but it may be distracting. A quick reading of the relevant manual section before the training helps a bit, especially for the HUD symbol terminology.

Other than that, I think the Youtube tutorials by Matt Wagner are good, though I didn't see one on Mavericks. You may want to check them out for the other weapons.

Finally, when I'm looking for an equivalent in keyboard / HOTAS command, I'm looking them up in the settings window, which can be accessed directly during the mission (or from the menu). You can even select the keyboard column and type the key I think, it will bring you directly on the command line, and you'll see how it's bound to other controllers.

A question by the way; While trying to lock on a non-moving target in Maverick screen, "+" cross is constantly moving to forward. I stabilize it and it stops, but it starts to move forward again at the moment I touch the slew hat. So, it's really difficult to slew it on target.

I want Maverick indicator to move from A to B, but I want it to stop there, just like slewing TGP cursor. Is there a feature like this on Maverick?

Thank you.

yep. But using the TGP you almost never need it IMO.

EDIT: Oh, wait. I'm actually not sure if that doesn't reset when slewing... I immediately press the ground stabilize when I am done slewing.

EDIT: I think it stays stabilized in force correlate only.

EDIT: And of course you still have to keep the gimbal limits in mind.

The TGP automatically ground-stabilizes when you stop slewing, but the Maverick does not. You have to press TMS aft short to ground stabilize. If you're like me, you can't press TMS aft short fast enough so you end up slightly off from where you wanted to slew.

For this reason, personally I'm better using the TGP to find my target, setting it as SPI, then slaving the Maverick to SPI. Then just switch Maverick to be the SOI, and press TMS forward short until it tracks.

My experience so far is that after you slave and get it pretty close to the selected target, it's going to lock sooner or later. Sometimes I just tap the dang thing and it locks, but that's at around 3 miles or so. Any further out than that, I have to stabilize. It's actually a lot less intimidating than I thought it would be.

I never use to use the TGP, but now after the whole Maverick training thing, I even use it to keep eyes on targets when dropping dumb bombs. Great tool!!!!

I almost never use the mav's own slewing functions, its really annoying. From memory it locks the first thing it sees when you stop slewing, and if there are lots of targets in close proximity most of the time it locks the wrong thing, or decides a random house is the best thing to lock onto.
