Muppetlord Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 (edited) So I've been looking around a bit for an answer to this but I have only found documents in french. Which might not even have been about the thing I'm looking for, I wouldn't know..since it's in french ya know... Anyway, I just want to know what everything means on the radar screen. I've been trying to figure it out by watching the videos Razbam has put out but I am at a loss. EDIT: Updated picture. With all we know so far :D So, could someone fill me in on this? I really don't understand what I'm seeing on the screen right now. :helpsmilie: (Not relevant anymore...Just here for context) Edited December 20, 2015 by Muppetlord 2

Since this is a French aircraft I'm guessing this is in Km/h and meters correct?
Kayos Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Thank you! Since this is a French aircraft I'm guessing this is in Km/h and meters correct? Aren't all NATO planes in Feet for Altitude? I think that is a NATO standard but I might be wrong. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

OnlyforDCS Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) So according to this image the target's closing speed is 1253 knots, which would translate to about Mach 2,2. Which is different from the 1.9 enclosed in the red box....Im confused... Nevermind I figured it out. The red box does not indicate mach number, but approximate altitude in km, the speed of 1253 knots is the combined relative speeds between the M2000C and the target, which makes sense as they are closing head-on, the M2000C is doing Mach 1,2 and the target Mach 1. Easy, peasy....;) Edited December 18, 2015 by OnlyforDCS Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.
jojo Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) 1253kt/ M1.9= 659kt which seems right for Mach speed in low altitude. target is heading 089 at 1949ft. OnlyforDCS Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 Ah ok, my mistake. So the number 1.9 does indicate Mach speed? (And not 1900 ft?) 1 Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

OnlyforDCS Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 So what does that 1.0 (or 10?) number below the H symbol indicate? Zeus67 Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 So what does that 1.0 (or 10?) number below the H symbol indicate? That number indicates radar range and is static. It just happened that in this case, the symbol was just above it. Sporg Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 According to the French Mirage 2000C manual posted elsewhere, I believe the "718" over "1.23" would be IAS in knots (718 ) over Mach (1.23). The 65 in the opposite side could be the barometric altitude. The last numbers , "230" and "1 4 3" I couldn't figure out, because only navigational HUDs are shown in the manual. 1 System specs: Gigabyte Aorus Master, i7 9700K@std, GTX 1080TI OC, 32 GB 3000 MHz RAM, NVMe M.2 SSD, Oculus Quest VR (2x1600x1440) Warthog HOTAS w/150mm extension, Slaw pedals, Gametrix Jetseat, TrackIR for monitor use

Muppetlord Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 Alright, picture updated. Still a few things left to figure out. And I suspect at least one of these to be incorrect so feel free to correct me if you see anything that's wrong.
mjmorrow Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 Is the tape on the left the Vertical Speed Indicator? :detective_2: Just a guess. I have no clue. MJ [sIGPIC]http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/mjmorrow76/SPAD%20of%20a%20new%20generation_zpshcbftpce.png[/sIGPIC]
Cantiga Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 PIC/PID stand for Poursuite sur Information Continue(STT)/Poursuite sur Information Discontinue(TWS), but I could be wrong.
Zeus67 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 PIC/PID stand for Poursuite sur Information Continue(STT)/Poursuite sur Information Discontinue(TWS), but I could be wrong. Muppetlord Posted December 19, 2015 Author Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) Great! I'll make another update later then. But...Is there no distance to target anywhere? Or is that usually a thing that radar doesn't calculate? Oh and btw, what does STT and TWS stand for? Edit: Nevermind found it. TWS = Track While Scanning STT = Single Target Track Man I've got a lot to learn when it comes to radar usage and general BVR combat...Can't wait! :pilotfly: Edited December 19, 2015 by Muppetlord
