_Acoustic_ Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) Hi guys, I was flying this morning off the tanker and with the Rift on, I cant see the keys. I would like to assign some F keys to my throttle and stick. what would I select for F1 F3 and F5? Thanks I highly recommend getting Voice Attack. It is only $8.00 http://www.voiceattack.com/ With the rift, DCS A-10C, and DCS 2.0 NTTR, Voice Attack is a must. Can't get much closer to real. You can have as long and as many voice commands to activate anything. For example, to bring up the ATC command list, it is \, F5, and then the closest airfield is F1. So if I'm at Nellis wanting to power up, I say "Nellis Ground" and that series of key presses activates, bringing me to the next list, then I say "[Callsign], requesting start up." "Nellis Tower" brings up my ATC command when I want an inbound, "Nellis Approach" brings up when I want to request landing clearance. Taxing can get more real as well. I say "[Callsign] requesting blanket clearance to runway zero three left" or whatever runway, so if you are at Creech, one three or any of the other runways. It takes a while to set up but totally worth it. Etc, etc. With your set up its a must. You won't regret it. One other thing, I also set up all the F command and numbers as Foxtrot One, Foxtrot Two, etc for if I forget what I have to say. If not, just assign the F keys like any other key. whiteside Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 OK, I dont understand how to just assign a key to a button without getting a ancillary action. Example: Assigning View Cockpit Front is F1 but I assigned that and I just get the cockpit action not the F1 key during the communications menu. i9-9900K 3.6(Running at 5.0 GHZ) 32GB Memory 2x M.2 drives Win 10 64bit RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra OCULUS RIFT CV1 VKB Gunfighter 2 extended/TM Pedals/TM Warthog throttles.
_Acoustic_ Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Just change the view key from F1 to something else in the keyboard section of the controls.
whiteside Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 The keyboard section??? You mean after you choose the specific action you want to assign a button for? I'm sorry I don't get it. I've been simming for years but I am just not getting how you assign a KEY COMMAND to BUTTON if it is already used for another action. Not trying to be flippant. I need help. Thanks W i9-9900K 3.6(Running at 5.0 GHZ) 32GB Memory 2x M.2 drives Win 10 64bit RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra OCULUS RIFT CV1 VKB Gunfighter 2 extended/TM Pedals/TM Warthog throttles.
whiteside Posted December 20, 2015 Author Posted December 20, 2015 I am having SO much fun using the Hawk Day instant action mission flying with the A10 4 ship. By far the closest I have found on a PC to real world formation flying. Bravo! to all involved. Will i9-9900K 3.6(Running at 5.0 GHZ) 32GB Memory 2x M.2 drives Win 10 64bit RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra OCULUS RIFT CV1 VKB Gunfighter 2 extended/TM Pedals/TM Warthog throttles.
_Acoustic_ Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 No worries, I may be missing something. All I did was cleared every command that is set by default. In my situation, in the controls area I have the following from left to right: Keyboard, Saitek Yoke/Throttle, G940 rudder, G940 throttle, G940 stick, GP-Wiz40, TrackIR, Mouse. After clearing everything, I was able to assign whatever I wanted to whatever button. Then just assign cockpit view to shift+V+G+ whatever and then it frees up the F commands to stay with the ATC stuff. I'll double check this once I get back to my PC later this week but I know I have toggle switches assigned to F commands to change between map and cockpit view and they don't seem to interfere with the ATC commands unless the menu is up and active.
Yurgon Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Good question, and not sure if it is possible from within DCS. Looking through the control assignments, I couldn't find any reference to the keys for the communication menu overlays, so my guess is these are hard-coded to F1 through F12. If you have a TM Warthog, you could use TARGET to assign the most important F-keys to some of the buttons. This brings a few complications and ultimately is a lot more work than it may sound, though. Personally, I have Voice Attack and it's a great addition to DCS. I think it would solve your task very elegantly. But if you require a solution based on pushing buttons, I guess the setup is going to be quite interesting.
whiteside Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 OK VA is AWESOME SOFTWARE! I downloaded VIACOM and the latest 10C profile and put it in the profile folder. . Am I supposed to activate with voice or a button press? What else am I supposed to do? I saw something about Activating the game? Help, this is fantastic! i9-9900K 3.6(Running at 5.0 GHZ) 32GB Memory 2x M.2 drives Win 10 64bit RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra OCULUS RIFT CV1 VKB Gunfighter 2 extended/TM Pedals/TM Warthog throttles.
Yurgon Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Sounds good. I haven't set up VAICOM yet, but the sticky thread is full of information. Regarding Voice Attack, I've set it up to only listen when I push the Mic Switch on my TM Warthog throttle (when I push it in, to be more precise) because I always prefer a push-to-talk setup. But I've also seen videos of people talking and then when they talk about flaps or something, their flaps come out, so it's up to you which way you prefer. See attachment for my VA Options.
_Acoustic_ Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 Yup, either way works. The program is a must IMO, on par with trackir or VR.
whiteside Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 I can make my own profile work but not the viacom profile. Any ideas? i9-9900K 3.6(Running at 5.0 GHZ) 32GB Memory 2x M.2 drives Win 10 64bit RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra OCULUS RIFT CV1 VKB Gunfighter 2 extended/TM Pedals/TM Warthog throttles.
whiteside Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 OK, I set it up with a PTT but the VIACOM A10 2.0 profile wont talk to DCS. I built my own profile and that works but... I'd rather use the Viacom profile. I am definitely getting the mic to open. i9-9900K 3.6(Running at 5.0 GHZ) 32GB Memory 2x M.2 drives Win 10 64bit RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra OCULUS RIFT CV1 VKB Gunfighter 2 extended/TM Pedals/TM Warthog throttles.

whiteside Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) What do you say to contact ATC? I'm not sure. Say I wanted to call Creech and tell them inbound. Using the viacom A10C profile that is. Thanks! _Acoustic_ Posted December 21, 2015 Posted December 21, 2015 (edited) Whatever you want. I have mine set like this: "Nellis Tower, Nellis Ground, Nellis Approach" (Replace Nellis with the other airfields as well) Those voice commands brings up the next ATC command list, so the above is \, F5, F1. Then I say "[Callsign] requesting start up, or [Callsign] requesting blanket clearance to runway zero three left (or whatever runway), or [Callsign] requesting inbound, [Callsign] requesting landing clearance on runway XX, [Callsign] requesting emergency landing, etc etc. Then to exit the ATC command I have "roger" or wilco or clear comms. Its basically endless. I'm not a real pilot so not sure what you would call to bring up ATC but as an aircraft recovery spec driving around the airfield we would either say "X Tower" or " X Ground." I like saying "X approach when requesting landing though. I also have the ground crew commands, so I say Chief, or wrench monkeys, or crew chief, which brings up the ground crew list, then "brass and gas" or rearm or refuel, or wash the windows, check the oil, or hook up ground power, or disconnect ground power. The more ways to say the same command the better, because you often forget them. One thing is a must though: Train windows at least 6-7 times. I noticed when I upgraded to windows 10 it has much better recognition. Edited December 21, 2015 by ♠_Acoustic_♠
whiteside Posted December 21, 2015 Author Posted December 21, 2015 Would you mind if I tried your profile? As a Real World pilot, I may be able to answer any questions you may have.
