Guest deeplodokus Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Hi, let me begin by saying that I have read the manual, but that didn't help me much. So, I'm really confused about the radar and a2a. I think I know how to turn on the radar and to configure it simply. This is what I understand: - lignes corresponds to the vertical scan (greater lignes value means can scan stuff higher/lower in altitude relative to yourself) [only way to set it is via mouse?] - balayage corresponds to broader scan horizontally [only way to set it is via mouse?] - distance is for the range [ok there's assignable stick buttons for this] Ok so I go in a practice mission, I turn on the radar, I see some people in my radar. How do I select them? I've tried selecting 530 in the PCA, but then I'm really confused. I don't really understand the radar and weapon system chapters of the doc, to be honest. An explanation or video would be awesome! Many thanks.
Para_Bellum Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 You need to map TDC controls as well as lock/unlock target. You start in RWS mode. Slew TDC pipper on contact and lock target-> TWS mode-> lock again-> STT mode. You need to have locked up a target in STT mode in order to launch a 530 missile.
Guest deeplodokus Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Ah, thanks, what I was looking for was the TDC! :) Okay so next question: I see a big fat IL76 and I've locked it. But when I launch a s530, the damn s530 just goes straight and does not follow the target. Am I missing something obvious? (shooting with a magic2 works, it follows and shoots the target)
Kelevra9987 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 As mentioned above, you have to "Hard Lock" your Target in order to shoot the 530. If you just push Lock Target once you have it soft locked. Push again to hard lock. Para_Bellum Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Did you lock up the contact twice? Keep in mind that locking up a target only changes the radar mode to TWS. You need to lock it again to change radar mode to STT in order for the 530 to guide.
Warmbrak Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Also note that the 530 is a semi-active missile and one will need to maintain lock until impact, much like an AIM-7 Sparrow. 1
LuSi_6 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 the M2000 Radar can be fouled very easiely by flying 90° to it. It will loose lock and contact pretty soon, much much sooner than you might used to from SU-27 or F-15. hopefully because it's more realistic :pilotfly: Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pedals, Oculus Rift :joystick:
GGTharos Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Actually no, it's not because it's more realistic. We have documentation about the other planes and the radar modes they use to avoid losing lock under any circumstances, and in some cases those timings are in fact too short. It's modeled this way because it's modeled this way. If you want to know if it's realistic or not, then find the manuals for that radar set and check against that. Kenan Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Speaking of radar, what's it range (I know this might be classified but rough guestimate)? Zeus67 Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Speaking of radar, what's it range (I know this might be classified but rough guestimate)? 5, 10, 20, 40 and 80 nautical miles. Aginor Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 The range at which you can see contacts and lock them on depends on their RCS of course. I could lock on an F-15 on a bit more than 40 miles during my last test flight. Maybe with correct settings you can see it a bit further though. I haven't tested that yet. Mr_Burns Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 You can lock it but can't hit it until 6nm - at least that the farthest I managed a kill with the S530. I wouldn't lock it until 10nm, he won't have chance to think before a missile is up his chuff! I am loving this aircraft, thanks!
