hello

is there a plan to do the Enemy Within Campaign for MP? it should be awesome if we can fly the campaign (or each mission as a stand alone mission) with 2 or 3 friends :p

thanks

Hey!

Due to the way in which missions are constructed (radio transmissions used for all comms as opposed to "sound to" triggers) it would require a lot of work to make the campaign compatible with MP (currently radio transmission is bugged and sound is not heard by all clients).

However, in a week or two I want to open a poll here for those who finished the campaign to choose their 5 favourite missions which I will convert to MP.

I want to move ahead and work more on the new projects that are in the pipeline!

As I see it, you'll have lots of work adapting the campaign to the new versions of DCS World as long as you want to sell it and that's hopefully for a long time. :)

Hahaha, that too most probably. Already had lots of fun porting it from 1.2 to 1.5, and here comes 2.0., alright, I stand corrected. I will focus on other projects when not upgrading TEW :)

hey BD, do you think going forward it would be possible to make campaigns if not multiplayer out of the box, then at least convertable? i understand not wanting to convert all of enemy within to it, as it would be piles of work and then more piles of work to playtest every little trigger to make sure they aren't a broken mess post-conversion, but could the new missions maybe be built that way from the ground up?

i ask if it's possible because honestly most DCS modules lack multiplayer content WAY more than singleplayer, and to me the game is best played as a small group.

is there some technical issue that prevents missions as complex as yours from being built from the get-go for MP?

it would be really nice. in any case, i'm looking forward to anything you produce because your campaigns really are top shelf.

At the moment making them fully convertible or compatible with a few clicks is tricky. There are two reasons:

1) radio transmissions - as I have explained earlier this feature allows for much greater realism than any other sound option, as it requires player to be tuned in to correct frequency to hear other AI flights. This also allows player to filter out unwanted radio chatter and for these reasons I build all my missions on this option and am not willing to compromise on that. Unfortunately it seems to still be bugged in MP and not all of the clients can hear the sound or see the messages - they always work only for the host. So to have a working MP mission I would need to convert all these to messages and ' sound to' options which takes time. And I don't want to build SP missions without using 'radio transmissions' as I am not ready to give much them (for realism sake). So the only option here is to hope that this will be fixed soon.

2) Conversations between player and wingman - there usually are quite a lot of those as a way to introduce some background information or just to add some funny dialogues. Of course these should be removed for MP, as I think artificial, scripted player voice in MP would kill the immersion.Though that doesn't take that much time is not a real problem.

So to answer, what I will do I will always publish a number of campaign missions in MP mode, until the bug is fixed and I will be able to easily convert all the missions. Having said that,if you have a group of people you fly with often and you would be willing to help, I could send you some missions for testing if the radio transmission bug has indeed been fixed or not! PM me if interested.

Or you bugger ED to fix this bug at long last.

I think it is not possible to force it (at least I am not aware of such possibility) - that is why it is difficult to release a campaign which would be only for MP. So guess the answer is no, the host will have to have it probably. But I don't know the details, it is more a question to ED, I will try to find out.
