JEFX Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 For mission building and training purposes, I was trying to establish the best on par adversaries for our new Mirage... Since the S530D needs to keep lock and aimed at the bandit for the whole duration of the missile's flight, it cannot compare with semi-autonomous more modern missiles. Therefore in the US arsenal, it is quite comparable to the SPARROW (AIM-7) am I wrong?. The range of the Magic II is comparable to the range of the AIM-9P (and not the M which has a longer range) right?. Therefore, if one wants to make an even fight, am I right if I say that a Mirage 2000C equipped with its 4 AA missiles (2xMagic II and 2xS530) would be on par with an F-16A with 2 sparrows and to Sidewinder P ??? But if one wants to make a par with a russian aircraft? would it be comparable to a Mig-29A? And what about the missiles? with 2x R60 and 2x R27R (those seem a bit better than the S530 no?) ??? Opinions??? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... In real life I fly a humble Cessna Hawx XP II with 210 HP :D
Exorcet Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I think you have the right idea. The M2000 should fit in nicely with the early model F-16's and MiG-29's. In DCS, the Mirage missiles seem to be at a disadvantage though. On the Russian side you can step down to the MiG-23 which is between the MiG-21 and MiG-29 in terms of BVR and agility. For the US, there is a lack of 70's BVR missiles, so the AIM-7M is as handicapped as you can get without going WVR only. You could try putting the Mirage against AIM-7 armed F-4's (Turkey and USAF aggressor in DCS) or the F/A-18 which has trouble accelerating and keeping energy at high speeds. jojo Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 (edited) 1 Vs 1 Yes, train Vs MiG 29A. Use jammer and try to shoot Super 530D as close as possible to increase Pk (shoot just before him). Then try MiG 29S with Fox 1, to train Vs jammer equipped fighter. 2 Vs 1 Keep the same aggressors to learn to use wingman. Make him shoot long range to put target on defensive and push to "good Pk" range while he evades. Finnish him when he recommit. Bracket formation to force him to make a choice. When it's good try 2 Vs 2 and 2 Vs 1 Fox 3 shooter and finally 4 Vs 2 Fox 3 shooters. When I say Fox 3, for training purpose I mean F-16 or MiG 29S with 2x Fox 3 + normal load Fox 2. Vs fully loaded F-15C it's more ambitious... Edited January 1, 2016 by jojo Mirage fanatic ! Para_Bellum Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I found the most fun engaging Mig-29 As without R-27 REs.
Fer_Fer Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 I flew it against a F15C without 120's (so AIM 9 and 7 of comperable dates). at which point its very evenly matched IMHO. the F15 has the advantage on range, but the Mirage is very capable of bringing the pain in a close in knife fight...
LuSi_6 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 What I like so much about the Mirage: you can fight and enjoy enemy AI that would be just ignoring while flying the Eagle.... I have lots of fun and a nice challenge fighting MiG-23 and MiG-29A MiG-23 is a very realistic enemy as lots of contries still fly it. The R-24 proofs to be quite deadly as it seems to perform similiar to the 530D when shot by the AI. MiG-29: I like the Desert Storm szenario, so I quip the -29 with 6*R-60M and 4*R60M and a pair of R-27R in a mix. Four mixed -29 with random skill is always a nice fight. BTW, late MiG-23 are supirior to early MiG-29 in terms of BVR :pilotfly: Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pedals, Oculus Rift :joystick:
Slipp Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Use realistic loadouts for Russian planes. No R-77's and no Extended Range Alamos. That will make it a fair fight. :)
