steve2112 Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) so i've been running a few tests in the su-27 at vegas with 5217kg fuel, no weapons. i've added the .miz file if anyone wants to try. in a sustained horizontal turn, i can get 450m radius at about 360-400kph in normal mode and 400m radius at about 320kph in directly control ON mode. (all tests at full power) i can't tell a difference with the W key. i'd be interested to hear if anyone can get a better radius than that and how?turntest1.miz Edited January 7, 2016 by steve2112 My kit: i7-4790K@4GHz / 8GB - GTX 980ti + rift CV1 - X52 pro - Multi Keyboard Remapper - 2DOF motion sim (in development)
Sweep Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 You won't see a difference with the W key unless you're at high AOA (i haven't tried your mission yet, don't have time). Lord of Salt
steve2112 Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 i really like direct control now, it's basically 11, really helps me get the gates. i have it right under my thumb, for when, you know, 10 just isn't enough. LuSi_6 Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 don't use the "W" key for turning, you will find yourself with no energy low and slow very quickly. Use it only for a lead turn to point your nose to get a launch with the R-73 or a gun kill. Use it as a kind of "nose pointer" :pilotfly: Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Pedals, Oculus Rift :joystick:

Use it as a kind of "nose pointer" Since energy conservation is going a long way with me, this was my plan to begin with, though i love taking a bird on high Alphas occasionaly. Ironhand Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 (edited) thanks, for super tight turns in the su-27, what the best airspeed and should i use flaps? (assuming no weapons and half full tanks)? thx Things like turning off FBW, etc aside, you'll get your tightest, fastest turn at the slowest speed that will allow you to put maximum Gs on the airframe. It's called the corner speed and it'll vary with aircraft weight and altitude. If you're only interested in the tightest turn you can make, then the slower you go, the tighter the turn. But of course! You always use full afterburner if you want maximum performance. Cutting the power at any point means lost energy, so the reason for doing that better be good ;) http://www.104thphoenix.com
Stuge Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 (edited) Oh, and it does turn horizontally at below 250 km/h. Like this! (complete with a close call and an emergency landing :D) You can get a little more stick pull by making sure the trim is fully back!Minimum Speed Turn.trk Edited January 8, 2016 by Stuge http://www.104thphoenix.com
steve2112 Posted January 8, 2016 Author Posted January 8, 2016 cool landing! so you are down to 220kph with a lot of nose up. i'll try it, thx. so are you using trim and direct control here?
