Nooch Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Hi everyone, I've done a tiny bit of research on the subject and couldn't find anything worth the read so I decided to ask the question here. What's the best way of using ECM, I mean when should I turn it on or off? I've heard you can make a missile break lock just by switching off ECM at the right time, don't know if it's true... And yeah same question goes for the Su-25T IR jammer: what's the proper way of using it? Thanks for your feedback guys :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
kirrasdad Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Well I do know ECM use will leave you open to HOJ missile launches. You will not get a warning either as radar is not involved. I have not seen much love from anyone in these forums for ECM. One mention I saw was only use it for SAM defensive Win 10 PRO 64bit ASUS Maximus VIII Hero MB Intel Core i7 6700K 4GHZ EVGA GTX 980ti 32GB G.Skil Ripjaws DDR3 1866@1600mhz Sound Blaster Recon 3D Saitek X55 Rhino Stick Trakir5 W/Pro clip :pilotfly: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Ironhand Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) Hi everyone, I've done a tiny bit of research on the subject and couldn't find anything worth the read so I decided to ask the question here. And yeah same question goes for the Su-25T IR jammer: what's the proper way of using it? Thanks for your feedback guys :) :) The answer depends, in part, on whether you are flying SP or online. There's a greater penalty for using it online than in single player. In neither do you want to turn it on and just leave it on. A few things to consider: Turning on your jammer announces your presence to the world. It broadcasts further than an opponent's radar would otherwise be able to "see" you. In effect, you're shouting HERE I AM!! You make it easier for the enemy to find you. Leaving it on constantly also makes you a HOJ (home on jam) target as Kirrasdad mentioned. Only use it, when you have good reason to do so. In the right circumstances you can use it to break a lock, mask a maneuver, or simply deny someone full situational awareness. It can also delay your opponent's ability to get a lock on you and, hopefully, give you a better advantage. But whatever your reason for turning it on, turn it off as soon as its purpose is concluded. Nooch Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 But say I have my ECM ON and I am a long ways out from my ennemy. When will be the smartest moment to switch it off? (assuming the ennemy is going to get closer and launch a missile at me) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
NeilWillis Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The smart thing is to emit radar or ECM energy only when you have to. If you don't need to jam someone, then don't emit. Realistically, I'd suggest turning it on only when someone has a radar lock on you. If you are not emitting, then only active radar searches will find you, and to do so they must reveal their positions by emitting radar energy. In an ideal world, you'd rely on AWACS to home you in on a target, and emit only when you are in a position of advantage and are about to launch missiles.
