Hi all,

Since the latest small update, I cannot go more than 3000 rpm with the P-51 engine, so basically I cannot break my engine, if I don't fly carefully. Also, on lower rpm's, the engine is stuck at 1500 rpm. Like the engine was set by the game to stay within the safe limits.

Am I alone?

Am I doing something wrong ?

PS: the rpm command is mapped on the axis of my Thrusmaster T16000.

It worked perfect before the latest update.

Same here.

In the real aircraft you should only be able to go over 3000 RPM in a dive with incorrect ppower setting. Or momentarily RPM will surge past 3000rpm with no or low airspeed, and fast application of full power, for example at takeoff you might see a surge to 3100 and then slow back down. The aircraft was capable of surges to 3200 odd RPM (I think it was 3250 but I have to confirm that), but application of power with prop pitch at full forward should never be able to exceed 3000RPM in normal conditions

NightRush, before the last patch, it was possible to "overpressure" the engine rpm's when not managing correctly the rpm throttle. It could happen pretty quickly, with an impressive "schlack" when the engine died.

It was cool and realistic, I think too.

Now, the engine rpm's stay within the safe limites, no matter what stupid moves one can make.

Bug ?

The propeller RPM is controlled by the Propeller Control lever on the throttle quadrant in the cockpit. The propeller governor automatically controls propeller pitch to maintain a constant speed between 1800 and 3000 RPM.

Did some tests again.

Looks like the game set some "easy" engine settings even in realistic mode (like the torque).

Even when flying ruthlessly, no success in breaking my engine.

Strange. Must do some more tests.

In the end, I think I may have a problem in my files, perhaps the update mixed something ?

In fact, I just installed JGSME.

Tried to install a skin and a mod, no problem within JGSME.

But the game doesn't take them in function.

Tried also to install the skin manually in the appropriate folder: the game doesn't see the skin.

As I don't know what to do with all these problems (skins not seen; engine too strong; no torque), I will simply do a fresh install. Oh, what the pain with my slow connection !

Just a question for the uninstall process.

I will do it with Revo Uninstaller which does a very good work at it, usually finding all the files needed to be deleted.

But are there some folders I should search for to be sure everything is gone ?

define "ruthless". I can brick the Merlin in under 2 minutes if i close the radiators, go full WEP, and make hard turns to keep my speed down to ~150 kts.

You know.....I got my Air Force pilot student coming today and I'm going to reference this puzzle to him. He flies air shows in an A10C with a P51 pilot. They do formation flying.

I am no pilot by any means. But I do have common sense and the P51 being so overly breakable never made much sense to me.

When I was in the military, I was issued a Jeep, and a Deuce and a Half. Both, relatively cheap vehicles compared to a P51, and both very dangerous to drive if you don't use common sense and keep relatively close to the speed regulations, especially off road. Both had heavily governed engines for both safety and maintenance reasons. It makes no sense to me at all that they would not have governed their A.C. engines in some way. I always thought that the P51 engine was too easy to break. It makes sense that they would take preventative measures on this.

But, I'll ask my A10 pilot. I'm sure he'll shed light on this for me.

You shouldn't need to go to those lengths CHDT. To remove DCS World, there are just a couple of locations for files.

C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World and C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Saved Games\DCS

Unless of course you have a Beta or Alpha install too.

Before you try that though, it is best to just ensure you have the livery folder installed correctly. Have you got just one folder containing the skin in the individual aircraft folder like this:

Bazar\Liveries\A-10C\*Named Skin*\

Or

Coremods\aircraft\L-39\liveries\L-39C\*Named Skin*\

Or

Saved Games\DCS\Liveries\A-10C\*Named Skin*

Where *Named Skin* is the folder containing the description.lua and any .dds files, and no further nested folders.

Re-installing seems pretty drastic to me.
