Landing the Su-25T, crash on runway

Recommended Posts

Hi,

trying my first landing, I discovered that I was not able to bring down the nose of my plane without making it jump up and down. Pushing the stick forward brought the nose down to much.

Trying a correction brought it up to high.

BOOM, gear broken and a "nice" visit to the grass right of the runway. Shame on me !

Would it help to set a deadzone to this axis of the stick ?

And if YES, how high should it be set to ?

Help and advice is welcome

First, don't pull the stick too hard, be nice to the stick, also to the SU-25t. If you don't make to hard inputs, everything will be ok.

For practise, search for tutorials for landing and setting up the stick

If you find your stick is too sensitive, then yes, add a deadzone and maybe even a curve.

Also, when landing you want to be nicely trimmed and you need to flare just before touchdown. Your vertical velocity just before touchdown shouldn't be much more than 1 m/s.

If it is your first attempt, then it isn't surprising you are having difficulties.

Before trying to set up the joystick, it is better to just keep trying until you get a feel for what is happening.

Once you start to get things under control, and you know what happens and why, you can then start to make judgements about what settings might help.

If you don't follow that route, all you'll do is end up chasing an imaginary goal without any way of telling if you're doing the right thing or not.

Three things to bear in mind. First, set up well before you get to the touchdown point, so you have time to make corrections, and get settled.

Second, to lower the nose, don't use the stick, use the throttle. When you are landing, the controls work like that - throttle for height, stick for speed.

Finally, accept that it is very difficult to get it right, and it'll not happen right away.
