VMFA-Blaze Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Forget getting Ian's mod go with the FSSB, it's high quality aircraft industry sensors and it makes the stick just like the real F-16. You haven't actually tried IJ'S NXT, This mod is extremly accurate and very smooth, and a great improvement over his first mod. I think if anyone is thinking about modding a Cougar they should look into all the options available. After all it is a pretty big investment, this is like the second or third largest investment when purchaseing simulator gear. (1) Gameing PC (2) Monitor (3) controls... Lets not be so opionated here, after all it's personal choice. As far as the heat on the Flight Line is concerned, I spent quite a lot of time there at MCAS Cherry Point NC, and this was without a doubt one of the Hottest Places I've been in my entire life, in more ways then one (LOL).... I was also at USAF Base Goldsbourgh NC. This was nice, 2 men to an airconditioned room with lots of space, where as the Marines had squad bays with a lot of men crammed in and certainly no air (LOL).. But the southern part of the East Coast is brutal in the summer with the high humidity... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR
Guest Cali Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 How's the "Dry heat out there" I used to work the flight line at Luke on Eagles in the 550th and Triple Nickle squadrons, avionics. I was there before they built the golf course, left in 92.....Bastards! Of course I got out after almost 11 years and now make many times my old AF pay....that's how I can buy $700.00 sticks to fly Lock-on with. The heat SUCKS! I PCSed from Alaska last November, I was stationed there for 6 years. So you didn't have the overhangs as well huh, MAN that must have sucked! What do you do now? hook me up with a job. I have a wife that loves to spend and kids that love to waste food/son that breaks everything and they all love toys.
mjolner Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I have had my cougar for about 3 years, it is still completely stock, I had ordered new pots when my X axis was spiking but before the new pots arrived I took the old one out and cleaned it and it worked like new. Its been going for about a year now since I cleaned the pot and still working like a champ. My center play has gotten pretty wide but It doesnt bother me at all. The spring resistance is enough so that when I relieve pressure or simply let go of the stick I know my pots are centered, or in other words the loose centerplay of the gimbals does not put any stray or false input on the pots because of the weight of the stick. The center play might give me a micro second loss in response time such as when fast rolling or changing direction but surely it is not significant enough to effect my game play, my lack of skill would overshadow it anyway. The software provided with the cougar is simply unmatched, with a little patience, and time you can create a very powerful profile that will suit your every whim, in any sim you fly. My stick has taken a beating, but has outlasted any computer part I have ever purchased. Cougar all the way.

I just recently modded the stick and throttle, and believe me if you think its awsome now you should (if you can afford it try the the mods), it adds another dimension to the Cougar. But this is just the way I feel about it personally, I'm sure that we'll most likely hear some contary opionion's after this (LOL)... right Rugg (hehe)... ~S~ Blaze intel Cor i7-6700K ASUS ROG MAX VIII Extreme G.Skill TridentZ Series 32 GB Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SATA II ASUS GTX 1080/DIRECTX 12 Windows 10 PRO Thrustmaster Warthog Oculus Rift VR

Oh, the overhands on the flight line, seen them on Google earth.....nope were not there, hot MotherF ***er with those Eagles out there. I think someone in AF assignments loves to send people from Alaska to Arizona. I started at Elmendorf AFB and was sent to Luke AFB, then got a remote assignment to Iceland with a follow on back to Alaska. I got out before going to Iceland after the gulf war when the AF was paying $$$ for enlisted to get out. A good friend of mine went between Elmendorf and Luke two times with Holloman thrown in there. I think they do that so you need to buy all new cloths, keep you winter gear, you'll be going back! I currently work in Medical Field service, CT and MRI. I used to work in Semiconductor Capital equipment. Both industries pay very good and both look for ex-military technical guys. It doesn't hurt to have an EET degree or something similar. Check out the semiconductor field, hell Intel is huge in Chandler and there are several Semiconductor vendors out in the phoenix area, most on the east side. As for the wife I'm lucky, she makes 2.5 times what I do....but I still buy all my own toys.
