The app wasnt written with Windows 11 in mind, so it likely cannot properly access the root structure. See bottom of post
I do have windows 11 on my laptop, so I test the new Core on windows 11.

Make sure you have all the .net updates.

@SkateZillaany thoughts on how I can get this to work? Thanks.

You can manually add it by editing the config file.
/%APPDATA%/Local\Skate_Zilla_Graphics_Stud\DCS_Updater_Utility.exe_StrongName_.....\1.1.0.1040\user.cfg

and edit:

            <setting name="UserP_CUSTOM" serializeAs="String">
                <value />

to

            <setting name="UserP_CUSTOM" serializeAs="String">
                <value>PATH TO FOLDER</value>

I was also told this is a windows browse dialog bug.

if your desktop has a lot of icons, this happens, it will show desktop, then crap out loading shortcuts, and bypass the mycomputer section as well with all drives.

Which is why I dont see this problem on my end, as my desktop is broken down into specific folders to avoid clutter.

I may have changed the publishing name in the last few builds.

I think it should be under /Skate_Zilla_Simulations/

Which ever subfolder has 1.1.0.1042

Not working for me.  I must be doing something wrong, I guess.

Also, I should add I have only 3 icons on my desktop.  (Just noticed your edit.)

once you edit the path and save the file, the app should see that path at start up and use it, no need to click browse.

The Folder Browser is likely having an issue with some of your desktop shortcuts, per MS Knowledge database.

as I dont have this issue on my Windows 11 laptop.

Thanks Skate, but no, that's not it.  all desktop icons removed and the same issue.  Two other people I know have the same issue.  Just showing Desktop at top level.

I'd have to look into more then with the new build,

Could be anything from network mapped drives to locked drives etc,

does it show for all folder browse dialogs (ie if you browse for DCS Build), if it only does it for that dialog, it might be a setting that dialog box is using, but from checking the code, the folderDialog is not using any properties, it's coded the same way all the other one's are.

if that's the case I'd fix it for the next version.

Also, run as admin?

Yep, it's the exact same for the Browse button for DCS Builds and the Saved Games Folder path, so all browser dialogues.

EDIT: the External Applications Browse buttons work OK.

However, your workaround is actually working, it's just that the browser when selecting 'Specifiy Custom User Profuile folder' isn't showing the actual location inserted into the config file.

Because those are looking for a file, not a folder.

MS Support said if only Desktop Root is showing, it's due to a folder protection/hide setting on the users system.

Likely because it's scanning for a /My Documents/ Folder, and you've re-located it elsewhere.

Where is the App EXE Located?

Yes, my system folders, e.g. Pictures, Documents etc. are relocated, but the system still recognises them as Documents, Videos, etc. as they were re-located using Windows built-in tools, i.e. by right-clicking on the folders, selecting Properties and then Location.  All games, programs, etc. recognise the relocation straight off.

yeah, I dont think the .net framework version used in that build recognizes that, it pre-dates windows 11.

Try forcing Admin Mode in the shortcut/security tab

As the normal root breakdown goes,

Desktop
-One Drive
-%USERPROFILE% My Documents
-This PC
-Libraries
-Drives
-Network
-Control Panel
-Recycle Bin
Desktop Folders

I am up to date with 4.8, unless not backwards compatible. Or did you refer to the .NET Desktop runtime? In that case it would be 6.0.10... and I also have that up to date...

I am unsure how to proceed with this, if you have any idea/clarification it would be welcome 🙂

Unfortunately, starting as admin made no difference. Just seeing Desktop in the browser window.

AFAIK if a App uses 4.6 you'd have to have 4.6 installed, I literally have about 30 .net Framework's installed because of that.

try Moving the EXE and the Newtonsoft.dll to a local drive, and not one drive, running from network drive isnt supported.

Hi SkateZilla,
Firtsly thx for Your Utility, it's a real game changer.
I have a little problem, I couldn't understand/manage to work the Graphic Preset selection.
I launch DCS in VR mode with Your Utility and I choose in the drop down menù the custom settings 2 (the one in wich I set my VR settings but every time DCS start with the custom setting 1 that is the 4k 2d profile.
Where's the mistake?

Thx.

The App and DCS have Different Profile Management,

So Choosing a Preset in the APP before Launching, is not the same as choosing that said preset inside of DCS.

Presets as a whole in the old UI have a fair share of issues, another reason for the decision to do a full re-write.

I have found an odd byproduct of this tool. Love using it for controlling my DCS systems but after each time I start the utility the Ria Software inc folder in my registry has to be deleted to run Tacview. Not sure the reason behind this but it is the only correlation I can find between when I have to delete the folder.
