ShuRugal Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 So, it seems that the audio engine really does not like doppler-shifting the sounds from a plane approaching at trans-sonic speeds:
mytai01 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 This is what the game sounds like! So, what exactly are you saying? ShuRugal Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 This is what the game sounds like! So, what exactly are you saying? can you not hear the oscilations and harmonics? sounds like someone playing with the DJ's distortion pedal.
lokodehortaleza Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Yep, i'd noticed these strange sound artifacts before, it sounds like death rays from outer space as the plane gets closer.
Golo Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 If you are at high subsonic speeds, say 0.95M there should be no sound until the aircraft is passing the camera, because the aircraft is moving with the sound waves. Ever heard, or perhaps better not heard blue angles sneak pass? I absolutly hate how this is represented now, just like fake movie effects.

Incorrect. At any TAS below Mach 1.0, the sounds of the aircraft will move ahead of the aircraft. At very high subsonic speed, it won't move -much- ahead of the aircraft, but when measured from a point close to the path of travel (as opposed to several hundred meters away from it, as at an airshow) the sound will reach the observer before the aircraft does, if only by a few fractions of a second.

Yup, listen to ground units too.. they sound very strange too at first. - If man were meant to fly he'd be filled with helium.

Thats true, thats what i ment, given that camera is positioned some distance from passing aircraft at that speed it will take some time for sound to reach it. Im not arguing about relative position of aircraft to sound waves, and I know how it works, im just saying its totaly wrong now ingame.
mytai01 Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I should post the video I made of Marine F/A-18's doing high speed simulated bombing runs. The sound is ahead of the jet; like a low rumble building a few seconds ahead and then it explodes with a roar as it passes by.
