Hi Guys,

Just to start off, I don't know how many of you are familiar with or have played Strike Fighters 2, this is another combat flight simulator which has some additions to the AI AWACS and EWR we currently have in DCS, my first request is to have options for AWACS and EWR to give either clock positions, instead of degrees, angel references instead of just altitude etc. Another thing that the SF2 Fighter controllers do is inform flights of missile launches, specifically large anti-ship, or cruise missile attacks with phrases such as "Vampire" etc, as well as coordinating ROE's and mission statuses. In SF2 it's things like "stay sharp", "cleared to engage" etc.

Another thing that SF2 does which DCS kinda does but not as clearly is the number of bandits/bogies detected, in DCS it's just callsigns; BRA (whatever that means), the contact (i.e. single group etc) then 3 sets of numbers; that being, relative bearing, relative distance, altitude, and whether it's moving toward you (Hot), moving away (cold), or moving perpendicular (flanking). In SF2 it's pretty much the same but with an improved voice over and additional information about the threat. So a SF2 one looks more like this [callsign], [fighter control/AWACS/EWR callsign], [no. of detected contacts, either singular "bandit", or "bogie", a group "multiple bandits/bogies", or a large group "10 plus bandits/bogies"], a direction [left/right (where applicable) then a clock position], [relative distance], [altitude (in SF2 it's given as an angel value i.e. 1 angel = 1,000 feet or Flight Level 010], [target heading, once again as clock-positions] and finally an action, be it rules of engagement, caution advisories etc. They also relay mission statuses like "good job, RTB" or "mission failed, RTB". (this can be achieved in DCS using triggers however).

In the video below the Tactical Air Control Centre is "Hawkeye" and relays information to the player - "Austin Lead/Austin 11" interestingly though, the other AI players refer to Hawkeye as Red Crown (the alternative Air Control Centre, even though the active controller is Hawkeye).

Another thing to note is that the control centre directs assistance to those who need it

I used to have a website with Navy and Marine Corp skins for the F-4B. I had evey squadron and several versions of each squadron. I tried to make the complete historical record of Navy and Marine F-4B skins in the original Strike Fighters...

Nice! Though getting back on topic - fighter controllers/tactical air control centres like in SF2 yay or nay?
