Nascar Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Any suggestions for a good 4TB HDD? I have Dcs on a 840 pro SSD but I need space for other stuff and decent speed for other games would be nice. Hadwell Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) I just bought a Seagate desktop 4TB drive. before, I was using a 500gb and a 1TB disk drive, and only had the 240gb ssd. One or both of the disk drives was slowing my system down, and it just wasn't enough space to record DCS videos, I got rid of them all together when I got my 4TB drive. I wanted a lower RPM drive, figure it'll last longer, for me, a 4TB drive is for storage, storage means it needs to last, though i've still got 118mb/s out of it, and for a disk drive, that's decent. I have an OCZ Agility 3 240gb, Samsung 850 pro 500gb , and the seagate desktop 4TB drive in my computer now, and it runs great. Nascar Posted February 16, 2016 Author Posted February 16, 2016 Demon do you have that one? I have seen some articles saying to stay away from 3 TB as they have had issues. Not sure why though. Commandz Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Toshiba X300 4TB or WD Black 4TB. Toshiba 2 year warranty vs Western Digital 5 year warranty. I currently have the X300 (New HDD to the market) and it seems on par with/or better then the WD Black. Currently 24% Space Used: [Read] 180 MB/s, [Write] 181 MB/s. Temps 29-45°C Also I've read that Seagate has a lawsuit against them for the Seagate Barracuda 3TB & Seagate Backup Plus 3TB HDD's. blkspade Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Demon do you have that one? I have seen some articles saying to stay away from 3 TB as they have had issues. Not sure why though. Because Seagate's have notoriously high failure rates. Its so bad people with decent ones likely to outlast their warranty are truly the exception. I've pretty much always gone with Western Digital myself. http://104thphoenix.com/
cichlidfan Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I have several Western Digital 4TB Caviar Blacks with no issues. For a mechanical drive I would not use anything else. Nascar Posted March 13, 2016 Author Posted March 13, 2016 I ended up going with a 1TB Mushkin Reactor. It is only $230 @ newegg and it was on my wishlist. They sent me a coupon for $20 bucks off. Now I finally have my OS on an SSD. Oh, the glorious boot times. Worth it. I've pretty much always gone with Western Digital myself. Rubbish....I've owned several Seagates over the years. Never an issue. I'm currently running 3 drives Hitachi, Seagate and WD all 1 TB HDD's.
