So, after a pretty long hiatus, I'm possibly looking at getting back into squadron flying (the squadron I was in are a great group of guys, but there just wasn't enough momentum to keep things going I guess).

So ... ideally, I'd like to find a squadron which:

  • Concentrates on MilSim realism (human ATC/AWACS, realistic mission planning, multiple elements in the mission - CAP,SEAD,CAS, adherence to realistic military protocols in mission, etc.).
  • Has a pretty regular flight schedule, where there's usually enough player committed to make each "flight night" viable.
  • Has room for a ground-pounder; my primary love is A2G flying.
  • Has room for multiple aircraft types (I see several squadrons like I'm describing which concentrate on a single air-frame - like the A-10C)
  • Has a role for Russian aircraft.

I'd also like to be able to use TACVIEW on the MP server, as I'm a big believer in "post game analysis" and figuring out what I need to practice for next time.

These are all "wish list", and I'm willing to be somewhat flexible - but the closer I could get to this, the happier I'd be.

I'm also willing to do the work to make some of those aspects (e.g. human ATC/AWACS) if there's squad interest but so far no one willing to put in the time/effort to make it happen.

Any suggestions?

I'm starting my own squadron, which emphasizes all of the above. 74th Virtual Fighter Squadron - Flying Tigers. I'm trying to gather a pool or mature, responsible virtual pilots who are A-10C systems and weapons capable. For now on the server will be listed as 74th VFS Open Server, TeamSpeak drago.no-ip.org, no password (For now). I been running the lastest Operation Bactria, which of all mission is the closest to real world A-10C missions. The mission is so far 1.5.3 stable other than a building or two apparently being impervious to bombs.

The Adversary Professionals were created in 2015 with a goal of becoming as proficient as possible in the DCS Mig-21 Module. A new idea within the DCS community was also pioneered, on demand adversary support to squads looking for human opponents.

For newer members to DCS, we’ve capitalized on the capability of the DCS engine on two-seat cockpits. With the release of the L-39 we now have the capability to train new members up to the squad standard prior to sending them into combat. We’re currently developing a training system to get those interested in different modules as lethal as possible. This allows those who want to fly different modules, the flexibility to enjoy what they like.

In order for the squad to become proficient there are many procedures that have been standardized, these are called SOP’s or Standard Operation Procedures. Each pilot knows them and executes them after training to them. In the heat of the moment, you know your wingman will be with you executing what he needs to in order to win.

The members of the squad also enjoy to fly many of the other modules provided in DCS. This led to the desire to become proficient at Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) in order to save pilots virtual lives when allowed for in missions. This was mainly executed using the Mi-8 Hip helicopter, but can be seamlessly transitioned over to the venerable UH-1 Huey. This mission set also leads well into troop transport and supply drop specialties. This makes the squad much more versatile in large scale online events.

The squad has also recently picked up the DCS Mirage2000C and has begun the long process of becoming proficient at it. With this dual role capable aircraft, the squad can deeply penetrate enemy territory and lay hate on the enemy in the air or on the ground.

The squad will continue to expand its horizons as new modules are released.
