Hi guys!

I have been exercising some with the GBU-12 in my A-10C and have been successful when I lase the target myself. Now I have created a tiny mission where a friendly is acting as FAC and should use laser to designate a target for me. All is good, I can call the friendly group as JTAC and they will give me the target and ask for a GBU-12. But I can't seem to find any laser when I'm in LSS in the TGP and if I release a GBU-12 it is always impacting a bit south of the actual target.

What am I missing? Is it something wrong in the setup of the mission (attached) or is it just me being unable to use GBU-12 properly?

I have looked into the manual for the mission editor and also checked some posts here on the forum. As far as I can see I am doing the setup of the mission correct but evidenlty I am not

Glad for any advise :)

(by the way, I am using the latest update of 1.5.3)

I took a look and couldn't get it to work either, but I'm not that proficient with the ME and setting up JTACs, so this may be my fault.

Then again I found this thread from circa two weeks ago that suggests it's simply a problem with DCS right now, which would not be unheard of... :music_whistling:

Besides, when I test flew your mission, the HMMWV TOW destroyed the target before I even got close. I had to set its ROE to "Weapons hold" or change the unit to an unarmed HMMWV to prevent that from happening. ;)

In any case, the only thing I ever got out of the JTAC was type 3 and no mark (tried Laser, IR and WP), even with the JTAC and the target on opposing sides of the Kobuleti training field with clear line of sight, so unless we both missed something obvious, my guess would be that JTAC marking is currently bugged.

I have tried in both DCS 1.5 and 2.0 to set up a ground laser hosting from a JTAC, but was always unsuccessful to "stage" it.

In previous versions, when the JTAC says "laser" in line 7, you will get several comms prompts for the laser calls: Starting from "IP inbound" to "10 seconds", "Laser on", "Spot", and "IN"

Now the term "SPOT" is a call from the aircrew to the pilot indicating that he has successfully acquired the laser energy from onboard sensors or weapons. This is not a required call as per the Joint Pub 3-09.3, but the comms sequence may cue simmers to press the LSS button to search for the laser.

When a LSS is done (don't know for sure in DCS 2.0 or 1.5) the TGP will find the spot, but will make your current steerpoint as the SPI generator....this will trick you into thinking the countdown timer for a CCRP drop is anchored off of your TGP; it is anchored off of your current steerpoint, which very possibly be near your target, but not on it.

Obviously if your bomb's ballistic flight path is too far from your target, the LGB will either not acquire the laser at all or not in time to make an accurate correction.

Hi and thanks for the answers.

Maybe I will have to go for multiplayer in order to practice that another unit is losing my target for me at the moment. But it would be nice to be able to do this in single player also. I will do some more tests in order to try to get it to work in my small mission though.

Thanks and happy flying!

A mission on my Hollo Pointe server called 'Witches Hollo' lets an A-10C driver pair with a Combined Arms JTAC to drop GBU-12s from above the cloud deck. The JTAC has to stay in binocular view so as not to lose the laser. What works is when the human JTAC gives the coordinates of the target and the heading to it from the JTAC position. The Hog driver should SPI the coords on the TAD and come in on the same heading.

Just wanted to reply with a solution I found:

On google I found a link to a github project from a guy called cribob(?) who had created a lua-file and some missions for jtac that will lase targets for you. I tested it and it works just fine for me on 1.5.3
