At Maykop impossible to use the RSBN-5S "ILS Mode"...

Hello guys,

 

My DCS is v1.5.3...

 

I have a question concerning the ILS of Maykop, my RSBN-5S radio settings are:

RSBN ----> Navigation: 34

PRMG ----> Landing: 36

During the final approach I use the "Navigation" and "Glide Path" modes of my RSBN and it's work fine impossible to use "Landing" mode.

With "Navigation" and "Glide Path" the two green light are "ON" but when I swith "Landing" the two green light are "OUT".

 

For my ILS landing I use the runway 04 not 22.

 

EDIT:

For my training there's no wind.

 

With the other AFB no problems but with Maykop my ILS is "OUT", please can you tell me if it's one bug or a mistake from my part ?

Skull, remember that Maykop only has PRMG in one direction of the RWY, from southwest to northeast.

 

If the active RWY is the NE-SW, you don't have PRMG indications, it's like Krasnodar Center.

Correct and for Maykop the only ILS runway is 04.

If my runway is not actived it's fault of wind, correct ? But I don't use wind with my training mission...

Is it other reason for have inactive RWY other wind ?

 

 

Here a very fast test, take off from Maykop and landing to Maykop.

For me everything is OK but impossible to have the ILS assistance...

Without any wind the default runway at Maykop-Khanskaya is 22. PRGM is only available when Rwy 04 is active.

 

In your track, when you ask for permission to taxi, ATC directs you to runway 22. As take off and landing is on Rwy 22, there is no PRGM/ILS active on Rwy 04.

 

To get Maykop-Khanskaya ATC to use Rwy 04 and activate the runway PRGM/ILS - you will need to set some wind, say 5 m/s @ 220° (I don't recall the minimum to get ATC to change but 5 m/s worked).

 

It is normal for the RSBN lamps to go out when switching to landing/PRGM mode.

A great thanks for your explanation, now everything is OK and I've well understand the problem.

In fact it's like the reality, ILS RWY are used just with a bad weather or by wind.

Your explanation is clear and now I understand, it's really perfect.

AFAIK it's usual practice to setup PRGM/ILS for the main and backup directions of approach.

 

On a real life picture of Khanskaya AFB it looks like Rwy 04 was the main direction of approach which is why it had PRGM/ILS

 

IMHO Maykop-Khanskaya defaulting to Rwy 22 is a database error and should be fixed to match the real airbase.

 

Correcting the positions of the taxiways and terminal buildings so they are north of the runway is unlikely, it'd involve a lot of work, might break past missions and the nostalgic error/artistic licence goes back to Lock-On days.

 

It won't stop players using L-39's out of Khanskaya AFB as in real life.

Hi Ramsay,

 

This morning I've created a little mission for landing with PRGM/ILS RWY 04 at Maykop AFB and with wind 5m/s from 04 and PRGM work fine.

Without wind the ATC give me RWY 22 for landing...

My little mission is perfect for PRGM/ILS, I've a snowstorm, fog, clouds and winter season.

With a future Caucasus map I hope that all AFB are more perfect and more realistic.
