I'm not a pilot but why he didn't pushed the stick forward?I mean isn't standing still the worst thing you can do in VRS situation?

 

I think he didn't have enough altitude for the maneuver, that is why he didn't do it

Belsimtek do capture the MI-8s VRS very well when looking at this tragic vid.

 

I agree that the pilot probably did not realize he was in VRS until it was far too late.

He drops the nose to kill rearward speed and then levels the nose when his speed is zero but I think he did not know he was in VRS and picking up momentum at this point.... perhaps he realized when the chopper wobbles but at this point the moment of recovery was gone.

 

I would have thought the pilot would have maintained his nose down after deceleration if he knew he was in VRS.... I think he would have held the nose down hard if he knew.

 

He was probably concentrating on where he was going backwards and eyes away from the dash, reducing glance time of the VVI.
