volk-19 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I have been practicing to avoid AIM-120 in lock on, and it seems to me that this missal reacts on my afterburn, because when I use it, it is harder to lose the missal. Any ideas about it????.............
Pilotasso Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I might mean more dopler shift as your afterburners accelerate you...I think. .
GGTharos Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I think what's happening is that even if you decoy the missile, you reduce the closure, thus increasing the time the missile has available to find you again... volk-19 Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 Yes, that is what usually happens; it finds me mach faster with the afterburn
Guest Cali Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Like hide and seek? Burner on it finds you burners off it's blinded.
GGTharos Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 It has nothing to do with the AB itself - just that using AB means an increase in speed and a decrease in closure - tail on, of course. If you're trying to barrel roll around it with burners on, you might be going too fast to roll tightly enough. In that case it would have no problem following you. Disso Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 It has nothing to do with the AB itself - just that using AB means an increase in speed and a decrease in closure - tail on, of course. But isn't that a good thing. Lighting AB and running, to increase the distance, bleeds the AIM120's speed and engery and Drastically decreases its chances of hitting you. I don't care if it has more time to track or acquire me, If it's going to be easy to defeat if you lure it out like that with a subsequent turn, is that not better? GGTharos Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 More or less correct in cases where you have been fired on outside the NEZ. But most people will try to wildly maneuver (once pointed away) to beat the missile - in LOMAC, you can simply accelerate away. volk-19 Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 by the way, i was using chaff to decoy it and did not manuver too hard.....
GGTharos Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 if you -can't- outrun it, -then- you have to maneuver. Violently .. and feed it chaff like it was free! (it is) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
GGTharos Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Yes indeed, if people SPAMRAAM you, forget it. What are you doing within SPAMRAAM range anyway though? ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
