Hello everyone,

This might seem somewhat awkward, but I have some doubts regarding what file / executable is what, here's the problem:

I am currently playing:

- DCS: FC3 ;

- DCS: MiG-21 bis ;

- all of these in DCS World version 1.5.2.48726.

Now, as this version is very stable I want to backup all the files I'll need to play everything again in case someday I format my PC.

The problem is, I want to install specifically 1.5.2.48726 and not 1.5.3.xxx.

So, my doubt is: which 1.5.2.48726 file do I need - the FC3 or DCS World one ?

The only way is to backup the entire DCS folder, all 14GB, or however big it is.

FC3 is a paid addon to DCS:W and thus you need it all. I also have no clue why you are trying to do this. It makes zero sense and is likely to give you all sorts of problems.

I'm still very noob on all this, but I'll try to explain.

Not that I have somehting against any particular version, but I keep reading about several people having performance problems with version 1.5.3. for instance.

My first path on DCS was: DCS World 1.2.16.xxx + MiG-21 bis + FC3, then updated DCS World to version 1.5.2.xxx (and both MiG-21 and FC3 updated simultaneously).

So I have the various backup files I downloaded when I bought the several games.

But, as the version 1.5.2.48726 was installed via update, which file do i need to maintain exactly this setup in case I format my PC ?

Thank you.

There is no single file. ED no longer provides installation files like those you originally downloaded, which means there really is no direct way to do what you want. The closest you could come would be to maintain a backup copy of the entire DCS folder that you currently have installed. However, getting this to work after you have formatted you PC is not will probably still create issues.

Now I'm starting to get the idea.

The DCS folder you mentioned, is 24 GB size in my case... and then there's the possibility of having the issues you mention.

So, how does ED provide the several softwares, for instance: FC3 ; MiG-21bis to a brand new costumer who buys them today ?

Then, 1.5.2.xxx and past versions do not exist at some place provided by ED / DCS, or something ?

No, unfortunately, they do not.

There is a way of rolling back using the updater, but you'll have to search how to do that, I'm not near my computer now

Here is the thread that explains how to roll your installation back to a previous version.

Using DCS Updater to Update, Revert, Repair, or Install Modules

There are, however, limits to how far back you can go. I suspect once 2.0 is released, that you won't be able to roll back to 1.5.x.

I see, (I'm not sure now, but I believe I also have a DCS World backup folder with executable file) besides the FC3 and MiG-21 bis 1.2.16 version files.

With the above would it be possible to maintain an 1.2.16 setup for instance ?

(Not that I retain much interest in 1.2.xxx version nowadays.)

Yes. As long as you have the matching, in terms of version, installation files for both DCS World and any modules, then you have everything you need to install and use that version. You will just have to say no when prompted to update.

Now you've said it all.

But if like you said, they do not provide DCW World 1.5.2.xxx installer, (although I don't recall what I do have in backup right now, and if those files do work) then the whole thing goes no where.

Well, as long as the future available versions work reasonably, fine by me.

Actually, it is possible to roll the version forward as well, using the Updater, the only question would be if it would update from what you have to what you want. Seems like a fairly painless thing to test, assuming that you have the free disk space to try it.

Also, things will get better as we get closer to the actual release of v2.x. What you are experiencing now can be chalked up to growing pains. This is rather like puberty for DCS World.

Yes probably it would, and using the repair / revert / process you mentioned on the previous page, I could go back to 1.5.2 in case 1.5.3 didn't work so well for me in therms of stability.

But as several people are not very satisfied with 1.5.3 version so far, for now I'll keep with 1.5.2.

I hope so, as I really appreciated the outstanding graphics improvement from 1.2.16 to 1.5.2 !

However there's still the performance issues of many people here regarding 1.5.3 and 2.0 versions.
