I'm somewhat confused over the AA training. First I'm supposed to set AA mode in the MCD no problem. Then I'm told to slew the seeker to the left plane. More difficult since I don't know where the view is pointing. Sometimes I find the plane but many times it's difficult since I don't know where I'm looking (compared the HUD view). And also what is the point in doing it ?

I had no problem shooting down both planes by simply point the my planes to the targets and when hearing the audible signal fire the sidewinder

Yea it kinda destroys the meaning to use TGP, when you don't know where it's pointing.

You can easily lock with it when the target is in front of you, but why would you need it when you know target is in front you.

That feature is very interesting for helicopters. Imagine you're searching the enemy FOB for some targets. Suddenly you see a moving helicopter. Switch to AA, lock and maneuver. Using the lock you won't loose sight even if maneuvering.

Pretty handy because you're in a "looking down" position where spotting helicopters may not be easy without the TGP indicator in the HUD.

You could try using the depressable pipper, set to a value of -41 the pipper should be at the TGP's boresight position which will give you an idea where it's looking in AA mode.

I remember using the hook function of the TAD to hook on the TGP display (the little diamond shape in the TAD). It shows a dashed box on the HUD, in AA mode, it gives you a general idea of where you're pointing.

Unfortunately, i don't really know how to do it an more. Has to be in the manual somewhere just search for HOOK-OWN, should take you to it.

I'll take a look when i can. I don't know if it is the main function of the Hook but it does the trick.
