Hi guys...I have my old 2x4gb cl8 1,5v 1600Mhz komputerbay (gskill chips) sticks in my desk because I updated a few months ago to 2x8Gb Gskill cl9 1,5v 1866 (now running at 2133)...but due to the fact that I see almost all my 16gb ram being used in 2.0 and the game stutters badly when accesing the HDD with a page file sky rocketing to almost 18gb I wonder if I would see any benefit by installing my 2x4gb sticks????24gb total!

I guess they would run fine at cl9 (9,9,9,28 ) 1,5v and 1600Mhz but what I doubt is if dual channel will still be working after that and if there would be any problem due to the size differences (8gb sticks vs 4gb sticks)...also I wonder if it would be a good idea to change from 2133 to 1600 again...

I ask you instead of just trying it because I would have to uninstall the cpu heat sink in order to install the first module so I would like to be quite sure of what Im doing before doing all that...

thanks!!

My last system allowed mixed RAM modules to be used and would scale the speed to the lowest stick, but you would want to be extra sure your board would support it before doing it, you would be risking a lot otherwise.

If you have 16GB already I would not change anything.

It is not so much that the board will take more RAM it is if it is able to support RAM of different types and timings.

Like I said I would wait, 2.0 is still in ALPHA and a lot more work is going into it currently.

Well, most of the time Motherboards will accept different RAM-Modules. But keep in mind that the slowest RAM will be used for Speed and Timings. Overclocking RAM with different Modules is... well... own risk. Additionaly sometimes the Motherboard will reject to use Dual/Tripple/Quad-Channel Mode with different Modules.

Final conclusion: I'd rather buy the same Modules again and go directly to 32GB so that you can keep your Overclock or just wait for improvements on DCS-Side...

Cheers :)

Modules: Well... all of 'em

nope the ram won't work I went from 8gb CL7 1600mhz to 16gb cl10 1866mhz ram and the 8gb kit didn't work with it....

I'm pretty sure the cl10 ram at 1866 might be slightly slower or roughly the same speed as the cl7 1600, but with dcs, more ram is more important than non-real world performance measureably faster ram...

Thanks guys!! I think Im gonna stay as I am right now...anyway I guess ED must do some improvements in RAM management and also I would like to maintain the 2133 clock at least when using other games/apps.

Anyway, I would like to know how people with 32gb runs DCS 2.0...does it make any benefit over 16gb??
