RedShot Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) Hey! First of all keep up the good work Razbam! Run into this youtube video of hellenic air force mirage dogfighting. Noted that on the video while dogfighting mirage's gun reticle was abit different that we can see in DCS. Correct me if i'm wrong but currently in DCS we have two different gun reticle modes. One without radar lock and one with radar lock. Atleast for my opinion gun reticle in radar lock on it's current state is horrible to aim and i prefer the one without the radar lock. Dunno if you can change reticles while locking the target. In the video it seems like mirage is having a radar lock, but it's using the reticle which we can see in DCS without the lock. Is the mirage on the video different model or what i'm missing here? Here is the DCS reticle which i'm referring to and below the video. jojo Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) What you see is A/A gun without radar lock + Magic lock (circle). Radar lock is a square. Radar + Magic lock on the same target is a triangle. AA gun reticle: It's gun shells position at locked target range. The snake is the gun shells trajectory from min to max range like if you were continuously shooting. So, to kill the target there is 2 ways: - tracking shot: keep the reticule on target, the whole burst will hit the target. - snap shot: you have to lead the reticule in front of the target and shoot, so the target will "meet" the gun shells. I'm not saying this is easy... Edited April 6, 2016 by jojo Mirage fanatic ! I7-7700K/ MSI RTX3080/ RAM 64 Go/ SSD / TM Hornet stick-Virpil WarBRD + Virpil CM3 Throttle + MFG Crosswind + Reverb G2. jojo Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 (edited) Roughly the 30mm shell travels at 800m/s. Lets say the target is 400m away. The reticule is the position of the shells fired in the past, 0.5s away. So if you squeeze the trigger just when the target pass on the reticule, you will always miss. You need to shoot 0.5s before the target crosses the reticule = snap shot. But, if you manage to move in the same plan as your target and keep the reticule on target, the shell will also hit the target. Feel the Force Edited April 6, 2016 by jojo Mirage fanatic ! Azrayen Posted April 6, 2016 Posted April 6, 2016 Clear & concise, thanks jojo :) What about PRED mode (predictive)? I'm under the impression it's seldom used, don't know how it looks, when by definition it seems more practical...

In the current razbam version we don't have this symbology. Perhaps the simulated C version with ther rdi radar is different from the E (export) with the rdm?
jojo Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Rome has not been made in 1 day :smilewink: It's a feature of both Mirage 2000C RDI and at least Greek Mirage 2000EG. Mirage fanatic ! Old thread, but do you (or anyone else) know why in this video (1:05 - 1:08 ) the magic circle is blinking and doesn't be replaced by the triangle ?
plaiskool Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Square = Radar Circle = Ir seeker Circle into square= Ir seeker slaved into radar position but small angle difference between the two sensors. double triangle = coincidence (no position(angle) difference between the two sensors). So basically in the video the double triangle was supposed to appear very shortly after video cut. (if pilot pressed the slave button)
jojo Posted December 17, 2017 Posted December 17, 2017 Double square or double triangle is gun firing solution when CCLT/ PRED is on PRED on the HUD control panel. You can have single triangle.
