Great book btw. And if you like it, and happen to like the F-4 as well, I can also recommend the author's second book "Palace Cobra". For a further F-105 fix take "Thud Ridge" by Jack Broughton.

Don't forget his last one "Fighter Pilot, The Memoirs of Legendary Ace Robin Olds" great read. Ed also used to post prolifically on rec.aviation.military in the old text based internet.

 

Kindle/Amazon also has a lot of good F-105 memoirs. "First In, Last Out, Stories by the Wild Weasels" is also a great read. Funny thing, I sat next to one of the contributors to the last book on a flight from Houston to Chicago back in May a couple of days after re-reading the book. Best flight ever that I wasn't wearing a flight suit...

Since nobody wants an F-105, why not an F-104 or F-100 SuperSabre instead?

f100 is noice too. I have simmed it FSX. Sabre dance isnt that big of a deal, you just have be be carefull of not lifting to much immeditalyey after take off, or just prior to landing touch down. just like the Mig21s fast landings with wings that produce little lift took time to get used to for most people here.

 

Once in the air the F100 handles relatively well, as long as you dont bleed its speed via tight manuvers below 300 knots

 

 

In any case would also buy a proper combat version of an F-100D in DCS, however its a bit less fitting simply because its a day fighter/bomber that lacks rwr, or any sort of radar.

 

not that big a fan of the f104 tho, its fast in a climb or in a stragiht line, making it a good interceptor, but its not not suited for ground attack, and not maneuverable in air to air. Long fuselage, with short stubby wings.
