What are their various positions indicating when red warning flags appear on the ADI & HSI?

Also how far from the threshold do you need to be for the glideslope needle in the ADI to begin to respond. It seems the localizer responds from a further distance.

Thank you.

I found that if you flying the steering cue and have it centered up on the flight path marker, the glideslope needle on the ADI becomes active and accurate at about four miles from the runway. But to qualify that a bit, I build my approaches to an ILS for a 3 degree glideslope and place my "landing" waypont just beyond the runway threshold trying to cross it a 50 feet agl.

I meant steering cross.

It is always best to not fly too fast or fly too slow. So I fly half fast. :D

There should be flags for each of the functions:

* Attitude Indicator

* Flight Director

* Glideslope

* Heading

* Course Deviation Indicator

Either the flag has a text indicating what is inoperative (eg GS for glideslope) or it is in the area where it has its scale.

Whether all of them are implemented or not is another thing.

So when you see a red flag then that function is not within parameters to work.

Thanks.

Exactly. Either inoperative for some reason or the signal is too weak to display a reliable indication.
