TMatzelle60 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Would 500GB SSD specifically for DCS be enough?
Hadwell Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Would 500GB SSD specifically for DCS be enough? for all 3 clients, plus a ton of other games, yes. TMatzelle60 Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 I was going to go with the following 500GB SSD For Steam 500GB SSD For DCS World 2.0 + Modules and stuff Do you think my steam will have enough with 500GB
Hadwell Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I have my steam and dcs on a 500gb ssd, but it depends on your game collection. my steam folder is 280gb, so over half my 500gb drive is just steam games. TMatzelle60 Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 But like you said i can just uninstall my games when I'm done i will likely only have arma 3 on there until i am done with that then just delete it.
TMatzelle60 Posted April 25, 2016 Author Posted April 25, 2016 Better Yet 500GB SSD for OS and 2TB SSD for Steam and 2TB HDD For DCS
Hadwell Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 (edited) hmm well if you can afford it, a 2TB ssd is good for steam and dcs and as a scratch drive(for putting unedited video and images on), and any hdd should only be used for things like saved games, and video and audio (that's already been edited) , things that wouldn't benefit from being on a ram drive if computers just used ram for storage. Demon_ Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 As Hadwell said. 512GB (OS, steam, games) and a hdd (saved games, video and blabla). Attache ta tuque avec d'la broche.
TMatzelle60 Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 I decided due to Work which takes up a lot of space and my mods and sons mods for arma. i decided 2TB WD Black - OS 5TB WD Black - Games Really wanted ssd but honestly the load times i can handle and all
Hadwell Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) always awesome when people ask for advice, then ignore it lol.... DCS is one of a few games that, although you technically "can" play it without an SSD... if you want to really be competitive on servers like the 104th with 40+ people on the same server, you have to have an SSD, or you'll just keep getting screen freezes and microstudders and just generally not have a good time. I have also found GTA V, dayz and arma 3 run much better off an ssd too. arma 3 runs better just by moving it from my old ssd to my new one. TMatzelle60 Posted April 26, 2016 Author Posted April 26, 2016 Honestly i do appreciate the advice but at this time. having a HDD will serve me better since i don't always use this for gaming. I have 4 Sata slots so it does not mean that i won't down the road. Also back 3 yrs ago. Also the micro stutters from a HDD. My son built a computer running 4.5ghz with sli 980 and has no micro stutter and he is running on a HDD Also if you can link me to the micro stutter info on showing how the HDD causes that. Would look into that.

agrasyuk Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 (edited) Its 2016, we dont use audio casettes anymore to store music. OS and DCS can live happily on one 256Gb solid drive (~85$) with a bit room to spare for your video software , thats for all 3 clients. steam stuff can live on platters if you so desire or have two repositories and load the more load intensive stuff to same SSD as OS room permitting. You of course feel free to go with whatever solution makes more sence to you, but with current SSD costs having OS and DCS on platters does not make any sense whatsoever to me. always awesome when people ask for advice, then ignore it lol.... Yep, that. Especially with word "urgent" in thread title. Edited April 26, 2016 by agrasyuk Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
