Can any F-15 gurus out there aid me on this one..

How does the eagle's altitudes scan range actually works? The one im refering to is those two digits you see on the left side of the mfd while you are are in BVR mode either STT or TWS. Example 0-20. Does it work like the flanker? Basically for the flanker you could scan from 0 to 15 or 0 to -15 and for me i try to fit the digit into the line box inorder to scan in the direction of where my hud is actually pointing but i have no idea on how the f-15 actually works.

The numbers you see are the top and bottom altitude limits of the scan cone at the distance of your targeting designator.

The default scan cone width is quite wide. The drawback to that is that it takes longer to complete a full 4 bar scan. The width of the cone can be reduced and slewed left and right, if you want.

So lets say i set my scan range of 0-20, does it mean im scanning at 0 feet to 20000 feet? If thats the case, will i stilll scan 0 feet to 20000 feet no matter what my atitude is?

It will scan 0-20000 feet AT THAT DISTANCE because the radar view is like a cone. It shrinks the closer to your plane, say 5000-10000 for half the range between the cursor and the bottom of the screen, i.e varies linearly form the nose to your cursor and so forth.

What Goya talked about 4 bar scan is azimuth, basicaly the same but on the horizontal.

So if i wanna scan out for very near targets say 8 miles ahead of me do i set my range to 10 NM and re adjust my scan altitude? Btw i still need answers to my second question which was whether my scan altitude would scan at the designated scan altitude no matter what my craft's altitude is or it changes along with it?

Remember the Eagle Can see to the Moon and to China.

P.S. Go head on against SAMs or AAMs with out G-lock and also Kill SAM Radars with your gunz; then you will gain the prestige of "Vulching"

To answer your 2nd question yes, you are pointing your radar when you change the altitude. Even if your flying at 40,000 feet, but remember what Pilotasso said about your radar being like a cone.

Yes, thats why say at 40K altitude, you can set the scan altitude to say 20K, but targets start to disappear as they move out of the cone.

Its one of the hardest things for newer pilots to learn.

So what do i do if i wanna find targets that are above and below me that are totally out of the cone of my radar scan? Gotta go visually now?

Just scan lower or higher

If you can -see- them, use a close combat mode. Forget about scanning around when they're this close, there's no time.

I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
