Bearfoot Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 First of, let me say that I LOVE the Caucasus as a region of interest. I spent the weekend reading up on the people, customs, traditions, etc. of the regions, and I will say it is an extremely fascinating reason both geographically and politically! I wonder if those who are "tired" of the "old" map may find themselves re-inspired if they read up on the history of geopolitics of the region? I think there are years and years left of fascinating stories and scenarios to be worked out in this area! So, with that out of the way, I would like to know where I can get some better information for this "tired, old" map. I am interested in knowing where various installations such as military bases, baracks, train stations, etc. etc. might be. Right now, the only way I can figure out how to see this is take a rough guess in the mission editor, stick a static unit or player helicopter there, and then go into the 3D world and look around. Very tedious! So inefficient and time-consuming that many places will never be found, especially if I am looking for a combination of places (e.g., a train station near to a particular feature). Maybe I am missing something in reading the mission editor map symbology that makes this clearer? Does ED have a database or list of such places? Or does anyone in the community? What about a high-resolution topo map? I know there is a user file that was kindly put together by from the A-10C TAD charts: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/274488/?sphrase_id=3440536 But is there something of better pixel resolution, with something that would allow me to read off the various features and parts? P.S.: I also went on to Google Maps/Earth and looked at some of the places so familiar from DCS. Wow. Wow, wow, wow, wow! Georgia is GORGEOUS! Apart from the natural beauty of the landscape, there are these magnificent old castles and fortresses all over the place. Amazing. There is a high likelihood that this might be a future vacation destination!
enigma6584 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Did you check this site out and the links associated within it? I've always found this to be very good in terms of background and ideas for missions I create in the editor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russo-Georgian_War If you click on the maps as well they open up in another page, bigger and higher resolution.

Thanks. Yes, those maps are really nice to give the "big picture" view of things. But what about the small picture? E.g., I want to find a base to place troops? Or I want to use the mission editor to build a base, but have a train station nearby?
Panhead Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 Some insight into the OBAT and the general area these forces are stationed. With a little searching of Google Earth and the like, I was able to find exactly what you were looking for: A military base with a train depot right next to it (Krtsanisi). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgian_Armed_Forces Also this from Wikipedia
Name Location Ministry of Defence Headquarters Tbilisi Vaziani Military Base near Tbilisi Krtsanisi Military Base near Tbilisi Akhalkalaki Military Base Akhalkalaki Alekseevka Airbase near Tbilisi Marneuli Airbase Marneuli Bolnisi Airbase near Tbilisi Gori Military Base Gori Senaki Military Base Senaki Poti naval base Poti Mukhrovani Military Base Mukhrovani Kutaisi Military Base Kutaisi Khelvachauri Military Base Khelvachauri Khoni Military Base Khoni Batumi naval base Batumi
And from Wiki-Leaks: https://wikileaks.org/gifiles/attach/134/134833_GeorgiaMilitary.docx The Wiki-Leaks doc actually has some pretty interesting information.
