Greetings guys!

I've recently started practicing shooting the HOT. However, something bugs me. At times the MAUVAIS light comes on for a reason I do not understand, and I cannot shoot. It's usually when I am behind a piece of cover, peaking over it using the VIVIANE. I let go of the autocollective and rise above cover to shoot but the mauvais light stays on. Only when I completely clear the obstacle by >10 metres and yaw the helicopter a bit do I seem able to get get the BON light on and shoot. I also note I have issues getting SLAVE to work as well around the same time I have issues with MAUVAIS.

Is this a known thing? Am I doing something wrong? Master arm, selecting pylon, giving the camera 3 minutes to cool are all covered.

Hi there!

Is this a known thing? Am I doing something wrong? Master arm, selecting pylon, giving the camera 3 minutes to cool are all covered.

The picture you posted shows the problem: The camera is looking 4° to the right of the helicopters nose. This can be seen by the 004 above the crosshair.

The maximum deflection for firing the HOT3 is 3° to either side. So you have to be between 357 and 003° degrees, else you will get no shooting clearance.

Not sure if it is related, but I also have troubles with the slave mode sometimes not working. Turning off and re-engaging auto-hover seems to solve the problem. Not sure what is the cause.

Thanks for your answers. However the quest continues. In both shots I can't turn on slave and have MAUVAIS light on. I forgot to tell before I still had the issue with low off boresight angle.

Try reducing your altitude. I spent a few hours trying to launch a missile last night and finally realized I was too high and had too much of a downward angle on the camera.

What exactly is the logic behind range determination and launch authorization? Is the system triangulating distance with some artificial flat ground model? I had quite a bit of trouble with getting launch authorization on targets on different elevation (for example a tank skylining on a hill, the top of a tower or a hovering helicopter).

I am a bit confused by the FCS preventing a missile launch based on a range criteria, considering that the system is physically incapable of precisely determining target range (since it does not know the elevation of the target I am looking at). The laser range finder seems to be for information only and is not integrated in the FCS.

I would assume some kind of rough triangulation takes place.

the Laser is surely information only.

But I also guess the missiles needs line of sight to the target, not because they - themselves - need to "see the target, but inorder to get of the rail with free space ahead.

Hovering low below buildings or tress and only the sighting system ontop of the heli-roof able to see the target, means that the missiles would be fired into the building or trees You are hiding behind.

I also guess that the 3° limitation in the lateral plane is present for the vertical plane.

After some more testing I found out a cause. It is feature and not a bug. The actual field of fire for the HOT3 is 5 degrees wide. For lefthand stations it is 357 to 002. And for righthand stations it's 358 to 003.

There might have been some other causes in some screenshots I posted. But thinking back about when I started this thread I was trying to track a target traveling to my right with station 1 selected.

Recommend to Polychop to update page 37 of the manual to reflect this limitation.

EDIT: Eh.. scratch that. I now can't get a launch authorisation when looking at 003 with any station. And can get authorisation at 357 with any station. Should have been a bit more thorough with my testing

EDIT2: I've been more thorough with my testing now and concluded it is indeed not possible to get authorisation when aiming at 003. This disputes information provided in the manual. I'll make a post in the bugs section
