Request to the devs or anyone else that might be able to extract 3D models from DCS

Is there a way to extract parts of the 3D model from the gazelle?

I think about creating my own collective lever. I could use the 3D models from the DCS Gazelle and rescale/modify them for custom electronics.

Seprate parts i Would have printed from a rapid prototyping supplier.

Thanks!

You can not export .EDM files.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

While I like the concept as a cockpit builder myself, the 3D model itself is intellectual property of Polcyhop Simulations. So it's something we have to protect. The artists put many years into creating the beauty that you see before you today, and just giving it away is not an option.

But I can see if we can pull the data you need though on the collective and let you know.

Totally understand and respect its intellectual property.

And I am not asking to make this for commecial use but my custom build homemade collective grip.

Here are some pics on how i thought to construct it. The Grip and Button Box would then be replaced with the parts printed from the 3D-Data of the Gazelle Grip. Shapeways does a pretty good job for decent money when it comes to rapid prototype stuff like that. This visualization has no accurate measurements yet. Its just a visualisation of how i think it would work.

The bearing will be replaced with 2 of those, screwed to the outer housing and an axle inbetween of them

I rethought the construction and here is how it turned out for now.

The Switchbox in the front is pure placeholder. Like mentioned i would love to have it look like the ones of the gazelle.

This time the thing is modeled with correct measurements. Its overall length is around 40 cm and when the lever is pulled up its around 25 cm high.

Wanted it to be compact so i can mount it to my office chair. Also the one in the gazelle is pretty compact as well.

And BTW: Great work on the Gazelle. Having fun bigtime flying it. I am looking forward to the alternate weaponloadouts and multicrew in particular. I think this si where the gazelle will start to shine combat performance wise.

I built a collective using pvc pipe and a electric junction box. Wired it to a USB controller and mounted on to a X52 Throttle. While it works mostly, I find that it's not as sensitive as I would like - so I've gone to using my X65 throttle for now until I can either fix the current collective, or rebuild a new one with a rotory in there to give me what I need.

That collective with all the bottons looks impressive. Is it for sale somewhere or is a custom design?

I agree....I spend too much money on some things (like an Oculus CV1) that buying a collective is a little out of my price range. Would rather build a new one. Plus, really looking forward to learn how to use a hall sensor since it more accurate the a pentameter.

I plan on using a HALL as well. Ill use one that detects rotation and take the movement at the axle. Btw. I looked at the Collective another time and i think its no problem to re-model the thing myself. After all it pretty much just a box:) So no need to make any more effort thou. Thanks anyways!

Update

I updated the Switchbox so it looks close to the one in the real thing. Of course i modified and added some more functionality so i can properly add more functions also for other simulators.

Right now planned functions:

3x 8 Way Coolie

3x Push Button

1x I-O-II Switch

1x linear Potentiometer

1x Hall sensor for Collective lever

Any chance you can break it down into components so we can get it cut and assembled by us?

Your visuals are good and the concept seems solid. Nice work.
