Ryback Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Hi everyone, Considering getting new iMac.. My priority is not gaming so no "get a pc" comments.I have a whole Apple eco system in my house and lots of licensed mac-only music software so the only alternative for me to get a new one. Back to topic: I'm wondering the DCS 2.0 performances on 4gig GTX780M and R295/395.. I'll be very happy if you can write your frame rate and your config.. Thanks all.
BitMaster Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 You are going to ruin your Mac's fans, that's the first thing going to happen ! I wont play anymore on my MBPretina 15", the fans squeek, the Aluminium gets very hot and one can imagine how this degrades lifetime if overdone. That's why I got the rig in sig, just for saving my Mac's life Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

BitMaster Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Yes, but thge iMac is also based on Notebook hardware. Well my friend intel iris graphics have nothing to do with the cards i'm talking about.Especially performance wise.Macbook Pro is one hell of a machine but not for gaming for sure.Remember that previous generation Alienware laptop had gtx780M card in it and it was gaming laptop. And from my own experience: i have 2 gb hd6970 i72600k mid 2011 imac. All that time it served very well until DCS 2.0.I had no problems until the performance pushed beyond its capacity. Thanks anyway.

Thanks anyway. get better GFX card, overclock that 2600k (that "k" is there for a reason) and you're good to go with 2.0. can imac's do that trick? AlphaOneSix Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 You can get MacBook Pros with the additional graphics card in addition to the Iris card. For example, you can currently get a 15" MacBook Pro with an AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2GB GDDR5 memory. Maybe not top of the line but even my MacBook Pro works relatively well with DCS as long as I don't go crazy with the graphics options.
PureEvil Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 15" for gaming? where is the joy? my first monitor in mid 90's was 15", my first TV at the same time was 16" lol STEAM asus p8z68-v gen3, 2600k@4,5ghz(w/c), 16gb, 1080ti(w/c), ch fighterstick/gvl224-4000-8, ch pro throttle, Oculus Rift CV1+Touch, thrustmaster tx

I don't know.No BIOS screen so no overclocking i guess. And gfx card.Yes and no.. You can swap cards but it's very hard and it's not really compatible. I have to flash the new card (which is not legit) and try to fit new version MXM card to old mxm socket.. I will trade my mac with another one. So no budget disaster for me..

If i get 4 GB gtx 780 i'll be happy i guess.. R395X iMac is quite a monster but with a budget of used compact car.:(
BitMaster Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 for gaming? where is the joy? my first monitor in mid 90's was 15", my first TV at the same time was 16" lol 15" with 2880x1800 btw, not 1024*768 :) way better than HD on 40" LoL, total opposite just...the MBPret's GFX cant boost that many pixels, not in DCS Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X
PureEvil Posted May 16, 2016 Posted May 16, 2016 15" with 2880x1800 btw, not 1024*768 :) my wife's samsung galaxy note 4 got 5.7" screen with 1440 x 2560 pixels (~515 ppi pixel density). why it doesn't make me wanna play anything on that device? ))) somewhere is the limit and need balance between screen size and resolution, i guess it's personal. 2 months ago i bought fast 24" fullHD, without g-sync or free sync (because i don't know what GPU i'll have next))). works great for me (gaming only).
