The new engine heat effects that came in 1.5 are a big step forward compared to the previous versions, but I think if the same effect was refined just a little bit further it would be near perfect.

What I mean is this:

Right now the "intensity" or the magnitude of the distortions cause by the heat-waves increases the further away you are from the airplane. F2 view > move mouse wheel to move the viewpoint further.

This is actually the opposite of what we see in real life. When you are far, you don't see the heath-waves as much as when you are close, looking at a background object in the distance.

I suggest that instead of tying the effect magnitude to the viewpoint distance (mouse wheel), it should be tied to the actual camera zoom (ctrl+*). This would provide a much more realistic effect, the same that is often seen on real videos. When the camera is fully zoomed to an aircraft (even from a long distance, like in tele-zoom shots) that's when you notice the huge amount of heat waves coming out of the engine the most.

Another thing is: objects that are in front of the heat effect, should not be blurred or distorted as they are now.

Hi bkthunder,

We have various reports open about the heat blur, intensity and effecting objects, I am sure it is something that will be worked on and adjusted in the future.
