jetsmell Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 I purchased the A10C and in it there's an option to train. I also noticed in DCS there's an A10C Basic Training Campaign. Are these two different options? I don't want to purchase the A10C Basic Training Campaign if it's already included in the A10C Module purchase. Thank you.
Andryl Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 They are 2 different things: the stock training missions are simple missions, with a voiceover guide, to become familiar with the main systems. The A10C Basic Training Campaign is a campaign that simulates a basic training program of an A-10 pilot. It's focused on flying skills and not combat ones. Every mission represents an examination where you must demonstrate to have acquired some skills (from a correct start-up, to flying a landing pattern or manage the aircraft during emenrgencies). It's quite challenging but very enjoyable: I recommend it. The campaign comes with training missions where you can experiment the situations before being evaluated. There is also a good set of videos by Recon Stewart that covers the various missions. (the first: [ame] [/ame]) But remember: these missions (both the stock and the Basic Training Campaign ones) don't substitute the manual. Lt.Snake Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 (edited) The A10C Basic Training Campaign is indeed very enjoyable. But I personally would recommend holding off until you familiarized yourself with the plane and its systems and procedures to a certain degree where you can comfortably operate. Until then, I suggest reading the manual and flying the included training and single missions and maybe building your own simple missions. As Andryl mentioned, this Campaign is basically meant to improve and above all test your skills. It's essentially a "virtual certification process". The virtual examiner is quite picky and at times a real pain in the behind, which is a good thing but it can be pretty frustrating if you're not comfortable with the plane yet. But when you eventially are ready, it sure feels good to finally get a "Qualified" rating from that bloody instructor :D Just my $0.02… Edited May 20, 2016 by Lt.Snake [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] \\\S.D. rickberry49 Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Lt Snake and Andryl hit it on the head... this is NOT a simple bang bang game, use the main menu training missions to help get started, once comfortable you can move to the BFT campaign (Basic Flight Training) that comes with the 2.0 install. You will need to repeat the basics many times before becoming proficient and learning the kbrd commands. In the process you'll start modifying your controller buttons to work the way YOU think and fly. Memorize the numerous commands and terms they are vital to future training and control of the sim. Be prepared to spend some time learning this thing but I can tell you it is an awesome sim... For what it's worth I've attached a MUSTKnow document I've been compiling, you really need to memorize and know all the stuff on it in order to understand training instructions etc.. Good Luck and happy flyingMUSTKNOW.pdf
