Hi chaps I was very lucky to experience the CV1 for the first time last night and I was left very impressed, as my July shipping date was drawing closer I was starting to get cold feet especially without my DK2, which is in America with my brother, to test on blowing £600 on a Pc upgrade and £500 on the CV1.

I decided to search online for a shop where I live that would allow me to experience VR however nothing was close by, what I did find was a worldwide map of VR Reddit consumers willing to allow people in to there home and try there latest possession and last night I did just that.

The link below shows the location of the VR users willing to demo.

After a brief talk he strapped the headset on my err.. Head and then I was in the Oculus holodeck.

SDE

The first thing that blew me away even though it has been a year since I last tried my DK2 was the massive reduction in SDE, it is virtually none existent I just could not see it even with a headset not perfectly setup for my own head.

Resolution

The improvement in pixel density (of course it is not perfect but hey this is cutting edge 1st gen) was very welcome. You can see the pixels in holodeck however when he showed me the demo scenarios I was again blown away. I was standing in the bridge of a submarine and the atmosphere/immersion was impressive then looking around I realised that the pixels were even harder to see than before, I believe this was to do with having objects closer to me.

I tried rooftop as well and I did get a sense of vertigo peering over the edge, then I noticed a sort of haze slightly blocking my view at first I thought this might be the god rays however it was just a foggy lens... Hey it had been raining was quite warm and I had just walked into a strangers house that I had only talked to via a few emails and then strapped an expensive piece of plastic on to my head blocking my view of the world I think I can be forgiven for being a little hot under the collar.

God Rays

Yes I saw them, are they annoying? Certainly not in the brief time I had with it, if I was an elite space sim player then yes potentially it would be. That said I didn't find them annoying in Eve.

So like I said I was very impressed so when I woke up today to find I had an email from Oculus telling me that my order was shipping soon I didn't even think about cancellation.

Will it be good enough to experience DCS WWII dogfighting I am not sure the only thing that makes me say that is the resolution and that will definitely improve over the next few generations, if you can wait then good for you however what I am after is immersion and VR is the holy grail.

I agree!

My experience is that the resolution is too low for the CV1 to replace my 34 inch 3440x1440 display in a practical sense.

However. The feeling of sitting in the cockpit is so immersive that I'm willing to give up clarity and visibility for it. I've had my CV1 for a month or so now and I've only used my 2D screen for mission building and quick tests of scripts and such in said missions, simply because I don't need to be "immersed" in the mission building.

I was a bit sceptical during my first days of use, mostly due to poor fitting on my face causing discomfort and also nausea (mainly from manuvering my aircraft in game, not so much from lag). Now I find myself using the headset for 4 hour sessions with my online community.

Today I wear the imprints left on my face for a while afterwards with a smile! Except around any other real people that is...
