Worrazen Posted November 22, 2016 Posted November 22, 2016 Fine, while your personal experience may be different please don't state it like this would just a normal thing to do. Everyone that decides to disable the paging file should be warned that it's officially strongly not advised, should be done on own risk and can cause substantial system instability. By the way, the purpose of the paging file is not only to accommodate memory usage grow above the hardware RAM capacity. It's constantly being used to store the memory of non-performance critical applications leaving more RAM for those that are performance hungry. This is how it is being "advertised" by MS as also why turning off the page file may have a opposite to expected impact on the performance. Yes, reasonable, but I don't think it would have negative impact on performance, It is more about RAM usage efficiency. There's some dummy memory that the applications allocate but don't use at all, that dummy memory is moved to the HDD. Modules: A-10C I/II, F/A-18C, Mig-21Bis, M-2000C, AJS-37, Spitfire LF Mk. Worrazen Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) I'm doing more testing now that I have the new GPU plus more RAM. It is about more than just stuttering, all about how assets are sorted and loaded. Infact one of the non mid-game tests is about pagefile, and no difference there, will see how it is for the midgame test. It is the Preload Radius system that has to be optimized, as well as other bits. It's a big post, so I rather finish it than spend previewing here. But the original OP of this thread is actually spot on, since I uncovered why is this loading so impactful, no matter how fast the speed of loading is, you may still notice it on SSD as well, albeit much lower intensity. These aren't the same kind of stutters that FPS people are experiencing and mixing, VSYNC, GSYNC and FPS are all visual-perception stutters, those are GPU limited, you simply see pauses in frames but the game operates under the hood. These are hard freezes due to HDD loading, they stop the whole game and so does the rendering part stop, that's why the frame drop, it makes it look like FPS or GPU stutter, for me since I'm using HDD, these laggies are more like freezes, not micro at all, it's a bit more severe than just screen tearing and stuff like that.
