Hello,

 

using 1.5.3 I wanted to have a ground unit being in front of the Helicopter but starting to move a couple of seconds later.

 

So I checked late activation and visible before start and a trigger with group activate with time more condition.

 

The unit was only visible after the time condition was met.

 

Is the visible before start option reversed or what else could be wrong?

activation in this context means spawning the unit. So the unit wont be placed until the trigger condition for late activation is met.

 

what you could do to make it work is uncheck late activation, and have a hold command in the advanced waypoint options for the fist waypoint of the unit. The hold command you can give a stop condition, such as time, or a flag. When this is met, the hold action will be stopped, and the unit will start following its waypoints.

 

or you place the unit and pause/resume it with group ai on/off triggers

Visible Before Start (in v1.5.3) along with Late Activation will show the group in the mission. When the group is activated by an event, like with a Time More condition, the group will activate and head on its path. Before activation the group will not show its labels if Labels are On, nor will the group show in the F10 Map View and other units will not be aware of the group, but after activation then its labels will show and you will see it in F10 View. See the attached mission.

Is this something you can do with aircraft/helicopters as well? I can't seem to find a "Visible Before Start" option for non-ground units. I'd like the world populated, but want to delay engine start for certain units until a trigger condition as been met.

Aircraft and Helos can be made visible before their activation by setting them as "UNCONTROLLED". Set their start time to the missions start time. Then make your trigger for them to start:

 

1. Trigger: 1 ONCE

 

2. Conditions: [your choice of how you want them to start] example TIME MORE SECONDS 60 starts them 1 minute after mission start.

 

3. Actions: AI TASK PUSH then AI ACTION [your group name] Start

Thanks WC, hidden labels were the problem; the unit for late activation was hidden in the woods so so I couldn't see it from the parking helo.

Tested both options now and the hold command on one of the first waypoints is best in my case. So I can set a trigger with flag for the unit to resume it's path.

Used to be the labels were always off if Visible Before Start, glad to see it fixed.
