Kusch Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 What do you think about controllable SAM in Lock-On? Really, really mad idea :devil_2: Altek-300, S-300 simulation only for users :D http://www.raspletin.ru/eng/lists/altek.html Give me "flying telephone pole" (SA-2)!
Guest Cali Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 And what would be the use out of this?:dontgetit:
GGTharos Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Personally I think it would be a -great- idea having a player control the IADS to some degree. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
44th Eagle Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I agree, this would be a awsome addition. It would also matter how well it was modeled.
Shaman Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I think this idea was brought up several times, but now with some really cool link provided. Awesomeness. We better start to search p2p networks ;) 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
GGTharos Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 You won't find any of this on 'P2P networks' or any networks whatsoever. This, like manuals that are to be studied to utilize the S300, are typically locked in a training vault. You walk in with nothing, you walk out with nothing. Don't kid yourself :P Besides, an S300 simulation by itself is useless - an IADS simulation would work much better, even if it was abstracted. Shaman Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 Don't kid yourself :P I knew someone will take me seriously and think that I actually gonna look for it on P2P networks. I was being sarcastic. Of course I wouldn't find it. Gotcha! 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
dodger42 Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 How so Cali? I mean its a natural progression ultimately for sims to encompass more human controlled elements. Although the likes of BF2 are ultra arcade, imagine ultimately having a sim where the majority or all of units are human controlled. Far greater immersion. No AI can ever (at least in our years) accurately replicate a human. Personally I'd like to sit a few rounds out of flying and try to take out a few ACs from my SAM unit :) I'd imagine working a SAM battery would be similar playing style to sub simulators. Lots more hands off, but more analysis. Just my 2 cents tho. . . . Lockon Advanced Realism with Touch-Buddy
GGTharos Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Hehe. Wait for your units to report an inbound jet, rotate the antenna to the correct direction once you think he's within 20nm, then light him up and fire! We'll see who calls it useless then! ;) Follow up by shutting down and waiting again ... if necessary, order your vehicles to stow and move ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

So when those pesky 29's come by flying 10 meters off the deck I can nail his :censored:.
GGTharos Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Yep, exactly! :D Working ARMs would be needed along with the proper susceptibility to counter-measures. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Force_Feedback Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Wasn't this a plan sometime ago to add a limited way for users to control SAMs (basically point, range, lock & click from what I understood). But then the idea died off, and everybody has forgotten it :( It would be great to have something like in Dangerous Waters. Nothing fancy, just track, lock and fire, no detailed radar screens, no ECCM ops, just lock and fire. So I guess ED (the fat computer geek :P) finally dropeed the concept? D-Scythe Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 LOMAC - Lock On Modern AIR combat ;) I'm in the camp of people who think this would be a waste of time and resources. Don't try to make Lock On into something it can never be - you might as well try to turn Flashpoint into Falcon 4.0. The time and resources can be INFINITELY better spent on improved SAM AI. Tactics like blinking, ambush, etc. None of the "let's leave our radar on as long as possible and get HARMed" stuff that it is now.
S77th-GOYA Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Who wants to join a server, sit and watch a blank radar screen, wait, wait some more, get a bandit, fire, then wait some more? If someone does, it would be cool to face human controlled SAMs, but how boring and lifeless can you get?
GGTharos Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 There are people who are definitely willing to do so - not all the time, for sure, but they're around. Probably same people who would like to run LOTATC. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
3Sqn_Fudd Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 I'm all for it.... I'd man up a Grumble or Pac-3 any day Awacs would be the ultimate though http://3sqn.com/forum/ Here's to 1.13 -- > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0488djMDBU
SniperRu Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Virtual War with thousands of players online is not so far away ;) imagine something like Lock-On Black Shark (for air) + OFP/Armed Assault (for infantry) + Steel Beasts (for armor) in one single game. much better than real war :D
nscode Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 Not just SAMs. I want AAA :) Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
