sobe Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 1. In STT mode, the bottom of the HUD and the top of the Radar screen gives you the aspect heading of the target such as H, R or L. Right before the letter is a 2 digit number. What is the number for? Is it degrees? 2. In the top right of the cockpit, above the flare/chaff lights is another light that lights up red. What is that for? 3. In STT mode, at the lower right bottom of the radar screen the last number is the target distance, the number to the left is generally a 3 digit number. What is that for? I have read that if you turn your aircraft to that heading you will be going head to head with the target. I have also read that it is the target bearing. sobe Posted July 29, 2016 Author Posted July 29, 2016 No 3. So if you are flying a course of 100 and the bearing is 200, then if you change your course to 300 you should be flying head to head? no 1. Would 17R mean that he is flying almost directly towards you? Bushmanni Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Target bearing is the direction of the target from you ie. if you point your nose to the said bearing the target will be exactly in the direction of your nose. Yes, 17R means the target is flying almost directly at you but little to the right. Top Jockey Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 No 3. So if you are flying a course of 100 and the bearing is 200, then if you change your course to 300 you should be flying head to head? no 1. Would 17R mean that he is flying almost directly towards you? Hello, 17R refers to "Aspect Angle". It's the angle your aircraft is positioned relative to the enemy aircraft's tail / 6 o-clock position, and from which side of his aircraft. In this case it means you're at an 170 degree angle from the enemy's tail, and from it's right (starboard) side. (So yes, he is flying almost towards you.)
