Custard Posted August 10, 2016 Posted August 10, 2016 Apologies if this issue has already been raised and acknowledged, but it appears that in DCS 2.0 NTTR there is no street lighting baked into the night-time ground texture like there is in the Caucasus map. [ame]http://puu.sh/qwOGT/c28d30b390.webm[/ame] As can been seen in the linked video, recorded on the maximum object detail setting. The draw distance of the lighting is clearly insufficient. This makes flying at night a poor graphical experience and navigation artificially difficult, with the player unable to see towns clearly when he is at altitude. As can be seen in the below picture of Las Vegas seen from 30000ft, real pilots have no such issues visually identifying cities and towns. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
blaueente Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Real Pilots also (mostly) have no performance limitations ;) mfg ente

REDEYE_CVW-66 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 If it is an underlying light texture- it should not have to affect performance afaik.
REDEYE_CVW-66 Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Yeah- sure- hire away. I'd love to work at ED. I'm sure ED knows how to do this just fine. It's in the original Georgian map. Even Falcon BMS has it. My guess it that they 1: haven't gotten around to it yet or 2: Don't think its neccecary. Aerosoft sells (expensive) packages that do this for FSX. I have it. I looks great and does not effect performance. Google "night time environment" and have a look. http://www.simflight.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/AO_night-environment_british_isles.jpg The idea is that you use ground textures that has night time lighting baked into them. It does not cost more to render a texture with light than one without. However- I have no idea to the technicality behind it- but like I said, I'm pretty sure ED do. 1

However it does affect your VAS a lot making higher the risk of OOM, but this is a great addon. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
remi Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 It was probably overlooked. Honestly, though, DCS has a hard time with night lighting/nightvision/FLIR. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Talented modders and unofficial developers made more amazing and nicer night environment for DCS than Aerosoft for FSX. That happened two years ago IIRC. May the THRUST be with you
Psicodreamics Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 About night lights. Are there any news about dinamic lights into airports. Its fustrating to see DARK planes below a illuminated ramp.
