SharpeXB Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 "For decades the processing power of computers grew steadily, thanks to the number of transistors being packed onto chips doubling roughly every two years. The trend, known as Moore's Law, has been wavering for some time and suffered another blow yesterday after processor giant Intel announced a fundamental change to how it makes computer chips." http://www.zdnet.com/article/intel-slows-the-rate-of-major-chip-upgrades-as-moores-law-falters/ i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
BitMaster Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 yep... many I know have PC's 2-6 years old...and they see no need to upgrade other than maybe a new GPU and SSD lately when that came around. dburne Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Yeah my X79 board and 4820k are still doing nicely for me at 4.50 ghz, I really don't see the need to jump to X99 at this time. I built this rig in Dec of 2013. I did recently upgrade my video card to a 1080. Reksi-Erkki Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 i7-2600K from 2011 @4.4GHz because I don't want to stress the old lady too much... with the NZXT Kraken I've run her stable at 4.6GHz, but the performance gain is minimal compared to the almost 10C temperature rise. Meanwhile, the GPUs have changed from HD6870 to 2xHD6870 to GTX680 to GTX980. Sandy Bridge was - and is - indeed a very good processor family. Dear Shilka. I hate you so very very much. Love, Rex
