graywo1fg Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 what is "Vsync" and what does it have to do with my monitor? and also where can i find it in my vid card settings to mess around with this Vsync? I have a 7800GT and 4200+ AMD duel core and 2 gigs of ram. Also how do i change my refresh rate for my monitor because in game under where i select my resolution it doesnt have it for some on reason.... unless thats normal now i dunno  Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
bflagg Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Vertical sync.. it forces your monitor to a synchronize with the video output frequency from your Video Card. Otherewise "tearing" will occur with quick movements. It's necessary for TrackIR users and LCD monitors. I always have it on since the the performance degradation with it being on is not even worth mentioning. (refresh rate is limited by your monitor spec..) It will be in your Nvidia control panel.... (somewheres......) Thanks, Brett
graywo1fg Posted September 22, 2006 Author Posted September 22, 2006 K thanks helps out alot  Voice of Jester AI Death From Above =DFA= Squadron Discord - https://discord.gg/deathfromabove http://www.twitch.tv/graywo1f https://www.youtube.com/user/Lonewo1fg
Black_Hawk Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I have an LCD and now I have it turned on. But my average FPS were 35 and now they are 24 max. My monitor refresh rate is 75Hz. Just wondering if this is a "MUST BE"? 159th GAR LockOnFiles CAW Team
walternowi Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 When you enable v-synch, you have to enable triple buffering as well. Otherwise, your framerate will be capped at a certain percentage (I forgot the number) of the monitor refresh rate. Black_Hawk Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 The tripple buffering is also turned on... I guess that some FPS drop is inevitable? 159th GAR LockOnFiles CAW Team
Prophet_169th Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Yes, because it forces the full render of the frame matched with the refresh rate. Without V-sync, the image changes as its scanned down the monitor. And thats tearing. So for simplicity, if the monitor is rendering a box moving left to right with v-sync off you would get * --------------****** *|***********|***** **|***********|**** ***|***********|*** ****|***********|** *****|***********|* ******--------------** Sorry for the asterix, it wouldnt display correctly without em So especially with LCDs that have lower refresh rates like 60Hz, you can notice this with fast movement, like looking around with TIR. I personally keep V-sync off, as I really dont notice. Maybe I just got slow eyes.
Black_Hawk Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Well I don't have TIR and don't notice any tearing and my LCD refresh rate is 75Hz and it doesn't bother me :) Turned off :smartass: Thanks for explaining! 159th GAR LockOnFiles CAW Team
Prophet_169th Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Yeah, some people notice tearing better than others, and it really drives them nuts. They probably also cant stand DLP TV's with the color wheel. I guess some just got keener eyes in that regard.
walternowi Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I am using TrackIR. When I move my head around, tearing is very noticeable.
