I notice the Radio menu in the F-86 is only available for startup and takeoff. It doesn't function once you are airborne. What's up with that?

You're using the control labelled "communication menu" probably on the ground? That won't work once you're in the air. You need to use the control labelled "microphone button" when in the air.

Communication menu = \

Microphone button = RAlt+\

Ok. That's strange that they are different commands. Like when you are taxiing you can still talk to ATC with \

Then suddenly you need Ralt+\

Yeah it's a little clunky. The communication menu is supposed to simulate you talking to the ground crew to get things going like ground power. Once I have ground power I just use the microphone button for all comms from then on out. Have it mapped to my hotas for simplicity. Think other modules like the A-10C work this way too.

Oh I get it. On the A-10C my HOTAS is assigned to the mic switches, not the \

So obviously the F-86 should do the same.

\ is for the Flaming Cliffs planes.

It's strange that \ works to talk to ATC but only till you take off. I suppose that simulates you shouting at the tower until you're out of range :music_whistling:

I have always wondered what the reason for the 2 separate buttons was. I now have an explanation, thanks!

I always assumed real world pilots had to switch frequencies between ground controllers and tower controllers, and finally, approach controllers, and didn't really worry too much about having to push 2 different buttons instead, but this revelation is much more likely!
