Harpoon Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 (edited) The SPO thread that's on the same page has more to do with the display itself rather then the sounds, so I decided to make a thread specifically about the sounds instead of barging into their discussion. I have always wondered, especially since the inclusion of the new SPO sounds back near the beginning of Flaming Cliffs 3, whether the real-life SPO sounds like it does in game. The devs have the frequency right... (quote from another forum): ZARE is right. In case of NIke Hercules, the SPO-15 will know when the SAM is on the way bcs of "specific" firing radar guidance signals homing the missile towards the aircraft. Having these guidance signals stored the SPO is then showing bearing and dynamics of closure with the missile. Check manuals again, particularly what it means when you hear 800Hz sound beeping in earphones. ...but what I'm thinking seems off is the fact that it's rather complex, and almost sounds acoustic in-game, not any sort of sound you'd expect to hear from a 1970's-1980's RWR system. I was thinking the real one sounds more like this (in launch tone). Note that it is a simple square tone: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/77/Launch.wav The original for comparison: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f9/Launchorig.ogg I'd especially like to get some info from any pilots (past or present) that have flown with an SPO if they can remember how it sounded. Thanks for any assistance. Edited September 12, 2016 by Harpoon If you want to talk to anyone about anything personal, send it to their PM box. Interpersonal drama and ad hominem rebuttal are things that do not belong on a thread viewed by the public. One thing i have to point out... naming a thread.. "OK, so" is as useful as tits on a bull.
JunMcKill Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Yes, there is another post where we were talking about the SPO-15 similitude with real life one, post it there https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=172556 The SPO thread that's on the same page has more to do with the display itself rather then the sounds, so I decided to make a thread specifically about the sounds instead of barging into their discussion.
