Pocket Sized Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 First off, the listed max range is total baloney. 10km? At 10km, the missile hits at nearly Mach 2. Using left Alt + W I found these little beasties will happily hit a target from 25km while still being supersonic in the terminal phase! No fancy lofting or anything. IIRC I managed a few from over 30km but the missile has a HUGE amount of subsonic drag. They can also be used for SEAD. If you lock the target with an ELINT pod and then turn on the TV the TV will automatically slave to the radar source. In other words, these can easily take out radar SAM's or regular targets because of the laser guidance. The only disadvantage it has on the Kh-25MPU is it isn't fire and forget. An MPU will miss if the target turns off its radar, an ML won't. Speaking of missing, when firing from these long ranges it's nearly impossible to actually lock a target. The good part is the absolutely MASSIVE warhead makes up for any inaccuracy. Not to mention the aim can be refined after firing. 1 DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.

Pocket Sized Posted September 12, 2016 Author Posted September 12, 2016 Could you please say which DCS version you are using? 1.5.4.56500 Update 5 I will probably post a video later demonstrating a regular 10km shot vs a 25-30km shot. (I really hope I didn't unintentionally uncover a bug) DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.
Pocket Sized Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Holy.... I managed a shot from 50km. (might still be processing) DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. In order to utilize a system to your advantage, you must know how it works.
pepin1234 Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Could be possible only if you have a JTAC. Su-25T have not a laser range for this distance. ~12km Su-25A have only 7 km laser range. The guidance for this kind of head seeker must be made with a laser signal response. At the moment of the impact you never reach laser range. Is a bug or they are tuning the Kh-25 AFM. sea2sky Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Su-25T have not a laser range for this distance. ~12km That is exactly how far kh-25ML can go in my tests (DCS 1.5.4, Su-25T). If you drop guidance a missile tends to fall somewhere around 10-12 km range as well. i5-9600K@4.8GHz ★ 32Gb DDR4 ★ Asus TUF rtx3080 OC ★ Quest Pro ★ Warthog on Virpil base
qqQ Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 (edited) Theoretically a Shark should be able to designate the target with its Shkval for you if he turns his Laser into Designator Mode (Instrument Panel, Covered Switch over Left Pedal to Stby (mistranslation in English cockpit I guess)) Dunno if its possible in the simulation though...maybe I will find time and somebody to test with (if somebody of you does it, keep in mind that the Shark has 3 selectable Laser codes as far as i remember. Also turn the Frogs Weapon Systems to Manual(if that exists and works like in the Shark)). Two Sharks can Buddy lase for each other (using the KH25ML only, no Vikhr for logical reasons), so maybe...
