Ukr_Alex Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 This is a real pita. I used up two serials so far because well I change my hardware a lot...I mean this summer alone I changed hard drives twice and got a whole new rig. And I have tried the save key thing fifty times and each time I reinstall and try to run the game by running the registry key file it NEVER works. Each time I still get starforce pop up and tell me I need to activate. So now I emailed them again for a new serial...But I cant keep doing this each time I have an issue or need to format or reinstall the game. So is there any way to really make it work? Ukr_Alex Posted October 2, 2006 Author Posted October 2, 2006 So I guess I am not the only one who cant get reg keys to run? :Core2Duo @ 435FSB x 7 3.05GHz : ATI x1900xtx: 2GB Patriot @ 435Mhz : WD 250Gb UATA: Seagate 320Gb SATA2: X-Fi Platinum:
Ironhand Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 This is a real pita. I used up two serials so far because well I change my hardware a lot...I mean this summer alone I changed hard drives twice and got a whole new rig. And I have tried the save key thing fifty times and each time I reinstall and try to run the game by running the registry key file it NEVER works. So is there any way to really make it work? Thanks in advance, I've reinstalled about 15 times so far and used up 2 keys. The first when I first installed the sim. The 2nd when I reinstalled and stupidly forgot all about saving the registry key. Since then, no problems. I've added some hardware (additional hard drive, etc). Supposedly, if you change a large portion of your hardware, you will need to use a new activation because SF interprets that as an installation on a new computer. Haven't run into this myself yet. But if you're changing hardware a lot and, as you say, "got a whole new rig", then I guess you'll use more activations. In one case at least, it was a new computer it was being installed on. Basically SF looks first to see if it's installed and, then, to see if it's suddenly sitting on a "new" computer (one significantly different from that of the original installation). It shouldn't be asking for a new activation after a format, etc however. Out of curiosity, what proceedure do you use? I save the key. Do what I have to do. Reinstall LOMAC/FC, run the saved reg key. And only then start FC for the first time. Ukr_Alex Posted October 2, 2006 Author Posted October 2, 2006 To be honest I never fully "reinstalled" FC. I just keep the copy from the previous install. Since its a pita to install lomac from the CD, then the updates, then FC, then more updates etc etc then all the addons... However I will try to just reinstall FC and see if that works. :Core2Duo @ 435FSB x 7 3.05GHz : ATI x1900xtx: 2GB Patriot @ 435Mhz : WD 250Gb UATA: Seagate 320Gb SATA2: X-Fi Platinum:
Ukr_Alex Posted October 2, 2006 Author Posted October 2, 2006 No go. Did a full game reinstall. Ran the reg key. And still get starforce everytime I click any of the executables. Just hope ED emails me my new serial soon. :Core2Duo @ 435FSB x 7 3.05GHz : ATI x1900xtx: 2GB Patriot @ 435Mhz : WD 250Gb UATA: Seagate 320Gb SATA2: X-Fi Platinum:

Just hope ED emails me my new serial soon. I hope so, too. But this is really bizarre. Is the path for FC listed in your registry correct? I'm not sure that it matters to StarForce but I'm wondering. Don't know what your comfort level is in dealing with the Registry but, as long as you don't alter or delete anything, there's no risk. Take a look under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Eagle Dynamics\(Sim name). When you click on it, the path for FC should be listed there. Below it should be another folder with the Starforce listing--it'll be the sim name but when you expand it you'll see a folder-"Keys" and a subfolder "HardwareProfile_xxxxxxxxx". Like I said, what's happening to you is very bizarre....... Ummmm....I was just rereading something you said in a previous post: "To be honest I never fully "reinstalled" FC. I just keep the copy from the previous install." Does this mean that previously you uninstalled (as opposed to simply deleting FC) and then, without reinstalling, simply copy/pasted a saved copy? If so, there would have been no Registry listing for the sim the first time you started it (until now since you just reinstalled). I wonder.... Ukr_Alex Posted October 3, 2006 Author Posted October 3, 2006 Well I did do a full game reinstall. And in the registry under FC when I just click on keys folder withouht expanding it I just get these entires (default) reg_sz (value not set) Last Hardware Profile reg_sz Hardware Profile_00000003 Serial number xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (withouht the xs ofcourse) And when I expand the keys folder I get HardwareProfile_0000001 ____________________2 All the way to Hardware Profile_0000007 The registry entires are there...but I get the starforce activation window each time. Keep in mind my last key was saved with the new setup. I just had to reformat once more cause I repartioned my western digital. Well deleted the key entry in the registry re merged the registry file in the lomac folder to get teh same ol stuff.... Blood starforce is the devils work... Id get lockon gold with the CD but out of damn principle I already paid for FC online..... :Core2Duo @ 435FSB x 7 3.05GHz : ATI x1900xtx: 2GB Patriot @ 435Mhz : WD 250Gb UATA: Seagate 320Gb SATA2: X-Fi Platinum:
Ironhand Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 ... And when I expand the keys folder I get HardwareProfile_0000001 ____________________2 All the way to Hardware Profile_0000007... Hmmm...7 hardware profiles? Mine's has always only had 1, AFAIK. That key is not something I spend much time checking. But I'm almost certain that I've changed hardware--also formatted--while I've had FC. 59th_LeFty Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Same problem here! I bought FC just after release and now have no keys left because the reg saver didn't work. I have no idea, because my config is still that old one when FC was first installed on it. Only WinXP reinstalls happened. The problem is always that SF bring up the activation window after updating the registry and launching lomac (not started before doing the reg). Anyone has an idea?
