SnorreSelmer Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) Hey all. Sometimes when I start up the Mi-8 I seem to be doing something that causes the engine(s) to run at emergency power (~95% instead of ~85%?), and the helicopter becomes impossible to control on the ground. I don't understand what I might have done while starting up that could have caused this. Can anyone help? My startup flow up to that point: Batteries (1+2) Inverters (115V + 36V > Auto) Fuses (all six bars, minus "the three" anti-icing ones) Fuel shut-off valves (L+R) Fuel-pumps (L+R+Service) APU mode (Start) APU start Standby generator Fire detector (Extinguisher) Turbine selector (L or R) Turbine mode (Start) Turbine start Edited October 1, 2016 by SnorreSelmer ASUS Z170-P w/ Intel i7-7700, 32GB DDR4 RAM, SSDs out the wazoo and a GTX 1080Ti, Oculus Rift CV1, TM Warthog stick and throttle, TM Cougar MFDs, MFG Crosswind pedals and WheelStandPro Warthog (w/ the custom small Warthog plate) Former F-16 Ground Crew @ RNoAF [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
lmp Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Do you have the correction mapped to an axis? Make sure it's turned all the way to the left. Also your sequence is missing unbreaking the main rotor.

I know, I always forget the rotor-brake. ;) ASUS Z170-P w/ Intel i7-7700, 32GB DDR4 RAM, SSDs out the wazoo and a GTX 1080Ti, Oculus Rift CV1, TM Warthog stick and throttle, TM Cougar MFDs, MFG Crosswind pedals and WheelStandPro Warthog (w/ the custom small Warthog plate) Former F-16 Ground Crew @ RNoAF [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SnorreSelmer Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Erm rotor brake, engine cutoff valves, Engine control levers, throttle rolled back. Lots of things to do before the battery switch is turned on :) I don't do the cut-off valves until I've started the turbine (learned the startup procedure from a Ka-50-guy, and according to him, the engine cut-off there must be opened when engine RPM is at 20% to not flood the engine), that's why I do that one so late. Engine control levers, are those the ones outboard of the commander's collective? I don't touch those, so they are in the centre position. Should they be up or down? Throttle is all the way back. Art-J Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 About the list from the first post, not sure why You touch standby generator (no need to do that in normal operation), also both inverters need to be on (manual or auto depending on power source) before startup, though I don't know if that has adverse effect on correct RPM governor operation or not. Why don't You learn startup procedure from tutorial mission? Or from Chuck Owl's guide if You want to be a bit more precise about it (it's based on real manual), or from real "1-1520-Mi-17" manual available on net if You want to be really anal about it :D. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
SnorreSelmer Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 ...also both inverters need to be on (manual or auto depending on power source) before startup... My bad, I wrote "Generators" when I meant "Inverters". >_< I'll try the in-game training, I just haven't done it in the longest time because I ran it a lot in the beginning and it "always" b0rked somewhere, to the point where I just went "To hell with this thing!" and asked this friend of mine. Cibit Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 Thats how I do it mate. SnorreSelmer Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 Thanks for the help everyone. I've tried to reproduce this in 1.5 (for a good 10 starts), couldn't do it this time. Looked at the bindings, no double bindings. Went to 2.0, instant repeat. Looked at the keybinds, Mi-8 Sim bindings looked good but the General Axis Assign was the usual "everything everywhere", so I unbound everything and bound the correct axis for each control. That seems to have fixed this, so sorry for wasting your time. :( ASUS Z170-P w/ Intel i7-7700, 32GB DDR4 RAM, SSDs out the wazoo and a GTX 1080Ti, Oculus Rift CV1, TM Warthog stick and throttle, TM Cougar MFDs, MFG Crosswind pedals and WheelStandPro Warthog (w/ the custom small Warthog plate) Former F-16 Ground Crew @ RNoAF [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
