Civil Aviation Sim recommendations

What would people recommend for a civil aviation sim? I've been out of the loop for some time, I think the last I owned was FS2004. I lost touch with that sim because the physics of aircraft at the extremes of the flight envelope just felt wrong. In fact DCS has set such a high bar with flight models.

 

There seems to be three choices - Prepar3d, FSX and X-Plane. I've heard X-Plane has excellent flight models, is that true? Is there a better option in that regard?

 

P3D looks really nice, but my understanding is aside from the aesthetic, it's still basically FSX.

Sorry to say that the mods will close/delete this thread since it discusses other flight sims. I would pose your question over on SimHQ. There are plenty of people there who can give you the insight that you are looking for.

Head over to mudspike.com, they have forums there and is a great place to discuss things outside DCS. (and DCS :D)
